Excitement growing for new mining projects on the Range 06/27/2024

My column in the MINE edition this week. We have a bright future ahead of us!

Excitement growing for new mining projects on the Range We have gone through many ups and downs on the Iron Range. I remember what it was like in the 1980’s when over one-third of the mining workforce was laid

Increasing daycare options for families is important. The proposed rules from the Department of Human Services for in-home providers is a blatant overreach of regulators. Democrats pretend to want to ease the daycare problem but these changes will make it harder for current in-home providers to stay in business, leaving many with just one option: center-based care, which might not be the best fit for every family.

If you're an in-home family care provider, please submit your thoughts on the proposed rules with this survey link.

Flooding washes out many Northland roads 06/20/2024

We recently experienced a damaging storm in our area. We are keeping in contact with local leaders to determine the total damage to public infrastructure, homes, and businesses. Please be patient as crews work to get things back to normal. We will work with local, state, and federal agencies to assess next steps concerning emergency assistance for our region.

Flooding washes out many Northland roads The National Weather Service reports anywhere from 1.5 to more than 7 inches of rain fell in just a few hours Tuesday night. There was also tornadic activity.

It was an honor to participate in the flag raising at Forgotten Heroes Ranges & Retreat today. The US flag was previously flown over the US Capitol and the state flag was flown over the Minnesota Capitol.

These Bingo Cards are being handed out at the DFL convention this weekend.

Mining isn’t a joke or game- it’s real jobs to support families, proper environmental regulations, and materials that don’t come from slave or child labor.

Democrats are simply out of touch with the needs and realities of what Minnesota Mining means to the Range.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who works as an Emergency Responder. In Greater Minnesota we are facing significant challenges to keep these life-saving services going. I was glad to support a funding lifeline this session, and promise to make funding rural EMS providers a top priority for the budget next year. We have to work together to get this done.

It was a great honor to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Keetac DR grade pellet facility. This means more union wage mining jobs right here in the Range.

Last night as session was coming to an end, Democrats brought forward a 1,400 page omnibus bill that included all of the bills they didn’t have time to pass. This was at 11:30, 1/2 hour before the constitutional deadline to pass legislation. Because long standing senate rules would have prevented passage of this bill, senate democrats simply ignored the rules and passed this huge bill that no one was able to read beforehand. I am ashamed at the behavior of senate democrats to ignore the wishes of the people who are asking us to work together. Instead, they allowed a charged felon to cast deciding votes on legislation that will have huge implications for our state for years to come.

The Rural EMS aid package passed the Senate unanimously today!

Reliable emergency medical services are a basic service that every Minnesotan deserves. The challenges we are facing needed this emergency aid just to stay afloat. While there is more work to be done, the sprint medic pilot program, regulatory changes, and certification reforms are meaningful changes that should help us address the long-term issues at a state level.
