Cleaning out the yard this week.
Sick over how low scrap pricing is the past few years. $60/ton is hardly worth hooking up the trailer for.
But at least the lot is cleaned up 👍
This past Sunday pulling at Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Association - est. 1974 Truck Pull 🤘
I pulled 283.19' in the white 07 Ford and Dylan Kechely killed it in his black 2010 Ford with a pull of 309.99' taking 1st place 🏆
Looking forward to the upcoming pull in Jordan in October. Hopefully we can get another 1 or 2 pulls in beforehand then it's the end of pull season. Over the off-season we get to tear into the white truck and aim for 1,500 hp 😉
Remember, we work on more than trucks here at Outlaw Transmission ‼️

Little over 30k miles on our Stage 2 Streetfighter 68rfe in this truck.
Our customer from Kentucky, who hot-shots across the country with this truck, came in today for a transmission service. We installed his transmission in late November of 23 and he has already put on just over 30k miles. This truck is towing 90+% of the time and is always working.
It was awesome hearing our customer tell others who came in the shop that he has never driven a truck with a transmission that shifts as smooth as the one we installed for him. The fact that he went through 4 other transmissions (1 origional and 3 built) from another builder prior to reaching out to us, and none of them held up still blows my mind.
We did the service in front of him and showed him how to transfer the metal spin on filter adapter and talked through the importance of using Mopar filters instead of aftermarket. We looked at fluid condition, saw zero debris in the pan and the smallest amount of fuzz on the magnet. Everything is in good working order and he is back on the road earning his living 👍
It's always awesome seeing a customer go out of their way to come back just to have the confidence the job is done right! In this case, He intentionally took a haul from down south to Minnesota so he can come see us.
We are so grateful to have earned the level of trust where not just for a transmission does a customer ship his truck across the country but months later he goes out of his way to make sure we are who services it!
We hope to continue to build relationships like this with our customers in the future.
Thanks to all of our customers for giving us the opportunity to earn your business ‼️

We have some BIG announcements coming in the very near future 🤙
I constantly get customers who come to the shop with their 6.0 powerstroke dealing with injector stiction. Once again here is a customer running Rotella oil thinking he is using a quality product.
He is not. And I will explain why.
Let's answer some questions and dig into the solution so it does not continue to plague your truck.
What is stiction in a diesel heui (hydraulically activated, electronically controlled, unit injector / high pressure oil) injector?
Stiction is when your spool valve becomes stuck or sticky and can not or has trouble completely traveling within its bore.
Stiction is caused by friction or "sticky friction". It is caused by a combination of static, friction and byproducts of burnt oil.
Will additives help solve my stiction issues?
Yes and no
There are several products on the market targeting customers looking for a quick fix to this issue. In some cases they do help. These products are a friction modifier and provide extra lubrication to your oil. This oil makes its way through the system and into the oil side of your injectors. Providing extreme damage is not done AND you still have significant travel in each of your spool valves, in time it can help free them up and get your injectors working properly again. This outcome is not guaranteed however. Like most "mechanic in a bottle" remedies, you always chance wasting your money trying for a improper solution.
If this option works for you, you will likley need to continue to use these products to keep the symptom from returning. This is because there is likley buildup packed into the topside of your injectors creating a restriction /hindering proper lubrication. So without this friction modifier you will expierence more stiction symptoms again in the future.
Do I need to be adding friction modifier to my oil to avoid this in the future?
No!
If your oil needs a friction modifier then you need to be using better oil.
Read up on oils. Go to their website and specifically look for anything that says it foams under high pressure (lacks the ability to lubricate properly) or oxidizes (a series of chemical reactions involving oxygen that degrades the quality of oil. Oxidation of engine lubricants occurs when the oil reacts with oxygen. It causes a chemical change that often results in oil thickening, formation of sludge and deposits, depletion of additives, and accelerated degradation.)
Rotella admits on their website, this happens with their oil...... and I see it often. Today is case and point.
How do I prevent stiction in the future?
Use a quality motor oil.
Valvoline full synthetic
Amsoil
Mobil delvac extreme
Schaeffers
There are many other quality options as well.
Also stop using oil filters from NAPA. the oil filters that come with the tall cap are trash. They bypass constantly sending trash to your injectors that builds up. This trash is the byproducts of burnt oil we talked about earlier. The filter you use is supposed to catch all of this. The filters that come with the cap do not accomplish this and do not properly filter your oil.
Use a motorcraft (or aftermarket aluminum based on the oe design) and a motorcraft oil filter designed for the cap.
Are my injectors starting to suffer from stiction?
If you have hard cold starts
If you lack power or throttle response
If you feel intermittent sensations that feel like a misfire...
It is very likely
You can also perform a buzz test and listen to the injectors. The more quiet the click the higher likleyhood the answer is yes. Tho the solenoid could be weak it is much more common for stiction to be the cause.
You can also roll your key on and listen. The injectors should not be super quiet or faint as the solenoids cycle the spool valves.
How can I properly fix my stiction issues?
You must remove your injectors.
When you do this you NEED to clean your injector cups completely. We use a folded up square of VIVA paper towel (the thick one) wet with some brake cleaner. Grab it with a needle nose and jam it down and twist. Does a hell of a job.
The pics go with the next part.
Next you remove the external orings from the injector and with a 90° pick you pry out the internal top side oring. Don't bother trying to remove the c-clip.
Take a razor blade and work it under the crush washer and leverage it a little then grab a pliers and pull the crush washer off.
Remove the injector solenoid paying attention to the direction of the bolt, nut and wiring compared to the notch on the injector the injector hold down locks in. Now remove the spool valve from its bore also paying attention to which end is thicker so when you assemble everything is oriented properly. You will notice some do not move back and forth in the bore as easy as others.
You can clean the injector with brake clean and use a scour pad to remove any buildup.
Grab a nylon hex shank brush and work it in and out through the bore and spray clean with brake cleaner.
Blow out the top of the injector with air and take your new topside o-ring and squeeze it into a oval shape and insert it into the injector. The tapered ring below the c-clip you can hold up with a pick.
Bottom out the oring in the hole and with the edge of the end of a pick push the top most part of the oring down and into the groove under the tapered oring. Now the same to the rest of the oring that is still above the groove.
With a straight or 45° pick, pry the oring from the bottom up into the groove and work all the way around the oring to ensure it is fully seated and in place.
This process should take under 5 minutes.
Now you can assemble the injector.
We use the MAHLE injector seal kit GS33711
Notch facing you to the right
Thick end of spool valve to right (l**e with oil or a drop of atf) (they should now freely slide in the bore)
Bolt head to right
Solenoid wiring to left
Tighten nut to contact + 1/4 turn
L**e ALL external orings with all purpose grease. Pack grease in the top of your injectors. Get new stand pipes and dummy plugs (04.5+ motors) and grease those orings the same. This ensures you do not tear or damage a oring on assembly.
Now install your injectors, oil logs and stand pipes and dummy plugs.
Now before you do anything, change your oil and filter!
With key off use the starter signal wire on the passenger side battery and crank for 20 seconds 3 times with 3-5 minutes between to let the starter cool (04.5+ motors remove the icp sensor and do this until oil comes out the hole then install the icp).
Now use the key and cycle the key to the on position. You should hear your injector solenoids/ spool valves clicking louder than you are used to. Now start the truck.
Run the engine for 1 minute then shut down and check your oil level. Add until your oil level is toward the top of the hash marks on the dipstick.
Start the engine again (it will likley still have an extended crank) run for 10 minutes then drive. It takes 3 pulls wide open throttle from 0-60 to work out the majority of air in your high pressure oil system. Continue to drive until you are 100% sure the engine is fully up to operating temp.
When you return from the test drive turn the truck off and wait a minute or 2 then start it again. It should start within 2-5 seconds (will improve with more daily driving) and providing it starts you know it does not have a high pressure oil leak "no hot start issue".
Now keep up on your oil changes and use a quality oil and motorcraft filter in the future. Your stiction issues are now resolved.
I know this is only helpful to truck owners with high pressure oil systems and is not our normal post about Transmissions.. We just hope that if nothing else it helps educate the community in how to solve a persistent problem that many truck owners have faced and don't know how to resolve.

Nothing like starting a HG job, finding a cracked piston and the customer telling us to reman a motor he had another shop reman in the past.
We tear down and find RTV on every gasket. Much of they clearly reused 🤦♂️
Pay attention to the oil pickup. Someone forgot a razor blade in the motor. Can anyone say oil restriction?
Between the vertical scoring in the cylinder walls and the damage on the bearings I think it's safe to say it was not getting enough oil.
It's the perfect storm of problems created by complete incompetence and lack of care.
Customer states: engine was overhauled a year ago by a reputable shop (not sharing the name publicly).
Shops that do jobs like we are looking at make a bad name for all of us.
Complete lack of integrity. 🖕

Nothing more fitting than a Outlaw Edition Ford F350 to be getting squared away in our shop 🤙
And a 6.4 next to it getting the same job.
It's head gasket week around here. This time of year, don't just check coolant level people. Test it to make sure you are not freezing or pumping slushy through your systems ✌️

Working on a beautiful 06 Ram
After several others could not locate a noise under the hood the customer asked us to chase it down.
The turbo is making a random noise that sounds like someone hitting it with a hammer.
That and its jumps to 50psi of boost anywhere past 50% throttle.
Glad we could easily diag something for the customer when several other shops could not 👍
Now to shop for a turbo that will compliment his build 🤘
