Kid A Marketplace is seeking a part-time Retail Associate to help our growing local business make sustainable parenting easier.

Kid A sells – and buys – premium used baby and kid gear. Our store (2313 W 50th St in Minneapolis) and website (www.kidamarketplace.com) are where our customers shop, sell, schedule, learn, and engage with us.

We’ve modernized the secondhand shopping and selling experience. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers are delighted by the quality, cleanliness and variety of our in-store assortment.

We support local sustainability by getting outgrown baby/kid gear back to use as quickly as possible. We also donate funds and items to local nonprofits that support kids.

Key Job Facts:

Title: Retail Sales & Stockroom Associate

Hourly Rate: $17 - $20 per hour, commensurate with experience

Hours Per Week: between 3 – 12 hours, with additional hours available if desired

Weekly Schedule:

Required: Saturday and/or Sunday midday (11am at earliest and 4pm at latest) Will consider candidates who can cover only one day per weekend. Days-off / weekends-off will be accommodated with advance notice.
Optional: 3 to 8 hours throughout the week (Tue. – Fri.) is desired and can be set to align with your schedule (anytime between 9 am – 6 pm). Not required.
Additional hours to cover the shop on weekdays when owner/manager is unavailable.

Core Job Responsibilities

Run retail floor on weekends, including:

Greeting customers
Interacting with customers and answering questions
Suggesting baby / kid gear best suited to customer’s needs
Restocking shelves and refreshing display as items sell
Managing checkout and point of sale
Setting up and closing the shop
Optional: opportunity to do social posts highlighting the store / inventory
Support stockroom operations as needed, including:

Processing merchandise: inspecting and cleaning products, staging and taking products photos, posting items on website, attaching price labels
Opportunity to support Kid A owner with retail strategy and merchandising vision
Requirements for above roles:

Solid customer service skills and experience
Energetic and enthusiastic
Self-motivated, works quickly and efficiently on multiple tasks
Strong attention to detail
Capable of learning and using basic Point of Sale software (i.e. Square card reader)
Able to lift and carry objects up to 20 lbs. as needed (we will do all we can to avoid any heavy lifting for the person in this role)

St. John's is hosting a sustainability fair - open to all - in the scenic Linen Hills neighborhood, and Kid A will be there! This event will feature solutions for what an individual can do the help the environment and mitigate climate change. Learn from experts about Recycling, Gardening, Solar, Geothermal, Electric Vehicles, and (ahem) Reuse. Featuring fun activities and games for both kids and adults.
