First day of exhibitors at IDRS 2024! Come visit our booth on the second floor of the exhibit hall!

Did you know the Flagstaff is home to one of the largest continguous Ponderosa pine forests in North America? Although it could be considered a high desert climate, there are no large cactus species native to the area, so our last post with a Saguaro cactus was... less than accurate.

We can't wait to see you among the majestic pine trees Sunday through Thursday! Stop by our booth to play some bassoons or oboes, browse our accessories, get some last minute repair work, or hang out and chat!

High altitude got you down? 🏜😵‍💫

In high altitudes, many oboists and bassoonists may find their instruments acting a bit differently. Aside from the inevitable reed changes, you might find a key binding or tenons fitting a bit looser. If you find yourself in this situation, we’ve got you covered!

MMI will have one of our expert repair technicians at our IDRS booth! We will be able to make basic adjustments to your instrument—including pad regulation, tenon fitting adjustments, key silencer replacements, and limited pad replacements.

So, if you find yourself in a bit of a pickle right before that big conference performance, stop by the MMI booth and we'll get you squared away!

Another IDRS post? Nope, Bass Clarinet!

Did you know Buffet Crampon makes an articulate C #/G # key for the bass clarinet? One of our customers did and asked us to fit and install the key on their Tosca bass clarinet!

With the ability to switch it on and off, any clarinetist can have the convenience of an articulate C #/G # key when trilling with the right hand, or with a simple flick, turn it off.

They've arrived - the Fox 750 bassoons!

These bassoons will be coming with us to IDRS, where you'll be able to play them on the convention floor.

The Fox 750 is beautiful, robust, brand new, and absolutely worth trying.

Better yet, you'll be able to try them with your favorite Heckel bocal at our booth, where we'll have a selection of over 25 Heckel bassoon bocals!

*** INTRODUCING THE PUCHNER MODEL 125 CONTRABASSOON ***

The first of this model in the US is going to be at the IDRS in Flagstaff!

We are so excited to show this instrument to you. The Püchner Model 125 features an innovative, completely redesigned and overhauled key layout. All left thumb keys operate in the same direction, making operation smooth, consistent, and easy to maintain, while also feeling more bassoon-like. The nylon lined pivot screws keep the mechanism silent. While the scale is incredibly even, this instrument is loaded with adjustment screws to fine-tune your pitch as needed.

It also features an E/F # trill, alternate Eb for RH forefinger, RH 3rd finger Bb, front F #, and an alternate top vent by C # for the left thumb. The crutch bracket can be adjusted in any direction with the included hex wrench to accommodate any hand position.

On top of ALL that, it's just so dang beautiful! The classic finish really shines with the mother-of-pearl style rollers.

This contra is a brilliant step forward in terms of key design, and we can't wait for you to try it for yourself. Coupled with that warm, sonorous Püchner sound, and an easy, even scale, this might be the best traditional contrabassoon you can find.

MMI currently has two high-quality used contrabassoons available! The darker-colored one is a Fox, and the brighter one is a Schreiber, made by Mollenhauer! These beautiful instruments are both available and ready for trial!

As of June 26, 2024, after a process that has taken over 2 years, MMI officially has a new owner! Tori Okwabi has been a part of the MMI family since 2015. With her background in music education as well as developing MMI’s clarinet and school bid departments, she has been an integral part of MMI’s expansion in recent years.

The Cyanea (PINK) Bassoon Hex Case is now available!

A recent arrival at the store - a contraforte! Made by our instrument maker Guntram Wolf GmbH in collaboration with Benedikt Eppelsheim, this redesigned contrabassoon has such an even scale, terrific volume and projection (hence the name 😉), and comes with a flight case and gig bag for ease of transport! This one came in a beautiful espresso color and plays silky and smooth like your favorite coffee. This instrument is already spoken for, but you can inquire to learn more about how to get your own!

Clarinetists, we just received a LARGE order of new Ishimori Eb, Bb, and Bass Clarinet ligatures and reeds! All variants are now available on the website for purchase.
