The lines in the ice that surround the central cavity of an ice lantern sometimes look like something seen in space, but add to that beautiful translucent colors of flowers in the ice and its pure magic. Illustrated DIY instructions for this project can be found on page 123 of my book, Ice Luminary Magic.

I know this is a little late for Easter, but I just thought of the idea. I will have space in my freezer soon and will hopefully have something fun to see in a few days. Hop on! —The Ice Wrangler from Wintercraft

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from the Ice Wrangler of Wintercraft with a lucky ice lantern wrapped in green felt placemats found at a local craft store. The method I used can be found on page 113 of my book, Ice Luminary Magic. My book is sold on the Wintercraft website, bookstores, amazon and can be found at libraries, too! I thought a candle would make sense to add a little Irish magic to this beautiful display filled with green! May you live a long life full of gladness and health, with a pocket full of gold as the least of your wealth. May the dreams you hold dearest be those which come true, and the kindness you spread keep returning to you. @icewrangler #wintercraftcommunity, #iceluminarymagic, #shamrockmagic, #icelantern, #islykt, #icemagic

Hi - I’m the Ice Wrangler from Wintercraft and I caught the ice lantern-making bug years ago. I think about ice lanterns everywhere I go. If I see a sculpture made of zip ties or a see a leaf falling in the woods, I think, “How can I make that in ice? So, that means I do many experiment with ice all year long. And yes, I have a few freezers devoted to my experiments, but I unplug the ones I’m not using. I’ve often wondered if there are other ice lanterns crazy people who would want to rent freezer studio space in my ice lab during the warmer months? I’d love to know your thought? Am I the only ice lantern nut out there? ❄️❤️ This experiment is in the first stages - so I cannot share details yet 🤫 #icewrangler #iceluminarymagic #iceexperiment #icelanternexperiment

One of my favorite things to do is to look -wherever I go- for new ways to display ice lanterns INSIDE. How? All one needs is a bowl large enough to hold the melting ice - AND - a riser of some sort that is able to hold the weight of the ice above the bowl and let the melting ice drip into the bowl. This video shows a candlelit, soccerball-sized ice lantern sitting on an upside-down glass bowl inside my new yellow boat-shaped ceramic dish! When I saw that yellow boat sitting on a thrift store shelf, I looked around as if to say, “Am I the only one who see this?” I quickly, but casually (so as not to draw attention to it) walked over and held it in my arms (like one should do when holding a foundling). As I drove home [chuckling to myself], I started dreaming of the fun I was going to have setting up a playful ice luminary centerpiece for Easter with my new find. If you want to create your own ice lantern centerpiece, turn to page 64 of my book, Ice Luminary Magic, to learn the best practices! Enjoy the glow! —The Ice Wrangler for Wintercraft

Ruby Meditation. . . enjoy this moment of zen.

A fan favorite project from my book, Ice Luminary Magic, is the Doormat Ice lantern found on page 113. It describes how adding a lining (like a doormat) to the inside of a bucket while making an ice lantern, can create amazing textures. Different linings create different looks. Stiff lining material is a snap, but floppy silicone is a different story, so I’ve been doing a few experiments. These beautiful ice lanterns were the results and were filling up my freezer, so . . . how to use them in this heat? Build a small ice luminary city on the melting lake near my house and see if the ice dragon who lives in my basement would come out to play. Nope - He’s still grumpy. #wintercraftcommunity #iceluminarymagic #icedragon #icelantern #islykt #icewrangler

From The Ice Wrangler - @icewrangler When life is spinning out of control, if I can, I try to go on a walk and remember that life is a gift and to rejoice in every day. Take care everyone ❤️ For those that are curious about the spinning ice, you may recall our Winter here in Minnesota has been one to forget—no snow and no cold temps to make beautiful ice lanterns to lift our spirits. Thus, I had forgotten that I had put a ripple-edged container filled with water outside to freeze a LONG time ago. Beautiful things happen when water is allowed to freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw over time. In this case, the ice formed on just the very top, so it was a disk of clear ice filled with oxygen bubbles. I found it yesterday, marveled at its natural beauty and put it in the freezer. On this Valentine’s Day morning, I pulled it out of the freezer and ironed the front and the back, which not only flattened each side but also “thermal shocked” it - crazy beautiful! At this point, I decided that I should hang it in my cherry tree to catch the morning sun. I used a small drill bit to drill a hole near one edge and run a piece of twine through the hole. Next, because it is Valentine’s Day, I rummaged through my collection of doo-dids that are red and found a gel cling heart - perfect. (A gel cling shape will stick nicely to ice in below freezing temps - shorter if above freezing.) So, into my cherry tree it went and spun it just for the joy of it. Happy Valentines Day everyone and don’t forget to Enjoy the glow!

Hi, I’m the Ice wrangler from Wintercraft and this video shows an ice bar that my husband and I installed at a wedding in Wisconsin today. It’s not dark enough to really see it glow, but you can definitely see all the pieces and the ice glass with the flowers inbedded in it that the bride really wanted. The warm weather made it touch and go but we pulled the ice glass from the pools this morning so just in the nick of time and now we’re going to go home curl up in front of the fire and be happy with a job. Well done. #wintercraftcommunity #icewrangler #weddingicebar #islykt

These are the base ice towers for an Ice Bar that Tom and I are installing for a beautiful, adventure-style wedding at the YMCA Camp St Croix In Hudson, WI. This is the first time I have ever built an ice bar on bare ground and it’s been interesting, but the base ice is in and they are all level. They’re looking beautiful in the setting sun! Tomorrow the bar tops and decorations will be added! #weddingicebar @icewrangler #icewrangler #wintercraftcommunity

I came back to the country club where I had set up ice lanterns for a wedding the night before and made a fun discovery. The candles in the ice lanterns on the deck were still lit after 15 hours of gently falling snow and a slight breeze. Beautiful! #icewrangler #wintercraftcommunity #weddingice #icelanterns4weddings
