Get your tote bags ready…. it’s NATIONAL FARMERS MARKET WEEK! 🌽🥬🌻🍳🥓🥦🧄☀️🍓🍯🎊

NFMW is an annual celebration that recognizes the important role farmers markets play in our food system and encourages Americans to support local producers by purchasing their products at farmers markets. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack proclaimed the week of August 4-10 as National Farmers Market Week to champion the direct-to-consumer producers, market staff, and customers that help their communities come alive during market days ✨

This year, the House will join the Senate and the USDA in recognizing NFMW, with both resolutions receiving strong bipartisan support!

Here are some of the ways farmers markets bring together their communities:

🍅 Farmers markets play a vital role in providing access to fresh, locally grown produce and other products, supporting the health and well-being of our communities

🍽️ Farmers markets offer a vibrant and inclusive space for education and engagement, where individuals can learn about food production, nutrition, and community

🤝 Farmers markets provide consumers with affordable options in their communities and foster relationships between consumers and farmers, enhancing transparency and trust in our food system.

🧑‍🌾 Farmers markets contribute significantly to local economies by creating more, new, and better market opportunities that allow farmers to sell their products directly to consumers, thereby retaining a greater share of the food dollar within the community

Stay tuned to learn more about how we’ll be celebrating this week with the other and how you can get involved in our city-wide treasure hunt to win a limited-edition tote bag, community cookbook & market tokens for participating markets!

Yesterday we hosted an outstanding group of leaders in our local food system to discuss the ways we can prioritize emerging farmers in Minnesota and beyond to promote equitable land access, funding for infrastructure, and resilience for food growers (and eaters) in the face of a changing climate.

Special thanks to Representative Samantha Vang, MDA Commissioner Tom Petersen, Michelle Medina, Lillian Otieno and Gary Wertish for your remarks and participation — as well as our co-hosts, Minnesota Department of Agriculture and Minnesota Farmers Union, for your partnership.

Attention dog owners! Here are our Community Health & Safety Guidelines for dogs at the Market 🐾

We love your furry friends, but we also reserve the right to ask you to leave if your dog presents a concern to the safety or health of our community. Take a moment to consider if a busy marketplace is the best environment for your pup with thousands of visitors daily — so many smells, so many noises! It can become overwhelming and result in injuries to humans and other dogs. Being intentional about the ways we interact within our community allows everyone to feel comfortable.

Here are some friendly reminders:
💩 Pick up after your dog.
❌ Do NOT leave your dog unattended.
🦮 Use a leash 6 feet or less in length.
🚂 No dogs are allowed inside the covered Train Shed area.
⏰ We recommend avoiding peak traffic hours (10am-noon) when bringing your pup to the Market, especially during busy season (June-August).

Thank you all for doing your part to create a safe and welcoming environment for our community — we appreciate you (and your fur babies)! 🐶

“It was like watching a Swiss watch work. Past the rows of vendors outside the Guthrie Theater, through the shrouded interior packed with goods and into the sun-dappled atrium of the Mill City Farmers Market, a couple manned a busy bánh xèo stand. A line of black crêpe pans are tickled by blue flames while a chef pours batter, lays bean sprouts at just the right moment, then folds the edges over into a perfectly cooked, crispy-edged dish. Each pan was in a different state of readiness, and she never lost sight of which one needed tending.

Bánh xèo is one of those dishes that’s best served immediately. It tastes even better when eaten on a tiny plastic stool, folding lettuce and a handful of Thai basil and mint around the lacy, crisp-edged crêpe, dolloped with chili sauce before being plunged into a container of nuoc cham.

Banh Sizzle is the work of Hang and Jonathan Jauquet, and the two-person team operates with breathtaking precision. It’s a crowd-pleaser of a dish, too — gluten- and egg-free for those with sensitivities. There’s a vegetarian version ($10), but the shrimp ($13) was the choice I made and will be ordering again.”

Thank you to for featuring the amazing ❤️ they will be back at the Market with their mouth watering creations this Saturday from 8am til 1pm — don’t miss out!
