Thank you to the 259 athletes who generously raised $12,720 for Minneapolis Public Schools Culinary & Wellness Services school food programs. With Life Time’s athletic events canceled around the country due to COVID-19, athletes came together to donate their registration fees to the Life Time Foundation.

Our charity partner - Mile in My Shoes - is doing amazing work in the community, bringing the transformative power of running to people experiencing homelessness and exiting incarceration. MiMS teams pair Resident Members (people living in shelters and reentry centers) with volunteer Run Mentors, running thousands of miles side by side and completing races from one mile to a marathon in pursuit of their vision: to build bonds, boost wellness, and spark social action by bringing the power of running to people experiencing homelessness and other barriers.

While team runs were recently forced to take a pause due to COVID-19, MiMS is continuing their mission by bringing over 100 MiMS runners together to train virtually and in small groups for virtual 5Ks and half-marathons, including the Torchlight 5K and their own Downtown Run Around 5K/10K on August 23rd.

Greetings Torchlight Family,

We hope this message finds you well, safe and healthy, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the current COVID-19 pandemic. The health and safety of everyone involved in our event as well as the broader community has been our top priority as we have been working closely with our partners at the Aquatennial and our local city agencies over the last few weeks and months to determine what the best path forward for this year’s 2020 Life Time Torchlight Minneapolis 5K is.

With that being said, due to the significant impact and risk COVID-19 continues to pose to our community, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Life Time Torchlight Minneapolis 5K event originally scheduled to take place on July 22, 2020 in downtown Minneapolis. While this was an incredibly difficult decision and we are heartbroken to not be hosting you this summer, we believe that this is the right decision and that it is in the best interest of all involved.

Current 2020 registrants should've received an email from us earlier this afternoon detailing the different options we are offering in terms of your registration for this year's race, including an option to donate your 2020 entry fee to the Minneapolis Public School District via the Life Time Foundation to support and aid the District as they continue to safely provide school lunches to their students during this time (tax deductible donation – receipt will be provided). We are committed to doing what we can to help you and our community through this unprecedented time, and hope you’re as excited as we are to get back out there.

As of today, Aquatennial is still planning for Minneapolis’ civic celebration in July. Details around this summer’s Aquatennial experience are still being finalized to prioritize public safety and health. Look for more about the rest of this summer’s beloved community celebration, Aquatennial, at the end of June on the Aquatennial website.
