These are the students from our afterschool bike club called “BikEasy” 😎✊🏽 We learned the parts of a bike, the ABC Q check, how to change a flat, how to ride safely and safe street crossing. We learned about the history of the bike and about Maya Pedal’s functional bike machines in Guatemala. Some students even learned how to ride a bike! The students helped share what they learned with other students and families at COPA Colectiva today! They even demonstrated how to change a flat in front of an audience. We are so incredibly proud of them. They are our future environmental leaders. we just hope that they remember how fun it is to bike and continue to do so as they get older. Let’s keep spreading joy together on bikes!
Thank you to Colectiva Bilingüe- Minneapolis Bilingual Education Collective for helping fund this project and to Slow Roll MSP for helping organize the Slow Roll ride for our students 🫶🏽🌿🚲🌼
Two of our BikEasy graduates ride from their elementary school to this year’s COPA Colectiva soccer tournament at Roosevelt High School (put on by Colectiva Bilingüe- Minneapolis Bilingual Education Collective). These students finished their afterschool bike program and are the newest bike leaders in Southside Minneapolis. They presented a summary of what they learned in the bike club in front of an audience at the event! One of the students (3rd grader) demonstrated how to change a flat tire! 🧰🚲 We love to see the students share knowledge and demonstrate skills that people of all ages can tap into.
I’m so incredibly proud of these students! Not only are the intelligent and capable, they care about their environment and are the future environmental leaders in our world. 🌎✊🏽🫶🏽🌿🚲
This is what our bike shop looks like right now.
We’ve been slowly giving bikes away and doing free/ donation based repairs for our unhoused neighbors and for low income families in Minneapolis. We don’t have a lot of bikes all of the time, especially in the winter, but when we get them, we try to fix them and donate them right away. We want to start bike mechanic classes and learn to ride classes next month. We are also starting our fundraiser next week! We are transitioning into services for profit so we can be sustainable… we need to pay the staff that are working with BX. We’d like to get some grants as well! If you are interested in volunteering to help us fundraise, let us know! Thanks to you for all your support throughout the years. 💕💕💕
