As Halloween approaches, we wanted to make sure we let you in on some more of our favorite spooky reads from our Spooky Buyers Guide! 👻
This one is for all of our adult readers or as we like to call them, our tall readers!
‘What Feasts at Night’ by T. Kingfisher is Anastasia’s pick. Here’s what she has to say about it:
“The second installment of Alex Easton’s story follows their return to their childhood home in Gallacia, where Alex discovers it in disrepair and the caretaker months dead from a mysterious lung infection. Suspicious activity ensues involving a dry well, an all-encompassing silence that lingers in the woods, and strange, unsettling dreams that take over in the night. Lines between reality and superstition blur in this creepy new novella by T. Kingfisher.” 🦴

Wild Rumpus had the honor of hosting for his ‘Where to Hide A Star’ tour, twenty years after his beloved title ‘How To Catch A Star’ first appeared! ⭐️
We had a lovely time upstairs in this beautiful event space, the former home of Tom Braun, co-founder of Wild Rumpus. What a treat!
Thank you to everyone who came and sold out this event months in advance, bought books to support our little Indie store, to for giving us this opportunity, and of course to Oliver, for your contribution to picture books and the artistic world of storytelling. We treasure you all!
Starry-eyed, and delightfully haunted by the ghost in our bookstore 👻,
-The Rumpians 🤩
Here’s a fun from 2005 when author Andy Runton came to visit for his beloved graphic novel series, Owly! 🦉💛✨
Temps (will eventually!) begin to really drop, and you know what that means here in Minnesota—IMPENDING WINTER FUN! Woohoo! ❄️ By the time this event rolls around, we’ll definitely be hardcore shifting into soup mode, so get ready!!

Today’s review comes from bookseller Heather!:
“‘UM, YES HELLO, it’s Spooky Lake Month!’ 👻
Do you, or a young reader you know, love SPOOOKY nonfiction? These were some of my favorite stories growing up, and I still love learning about how life here on Earth can be SO WEIRD. (Like, remember when you first learned about the Bermuda Triangle in 3rd grade and it haunted your whole class for a week??)
Well, we’ve got a perfect new book for some science-y thrills and chills!—-
‘Spooky Lakes: 25 Strange and Mysterious Lakes That Dot Our Planet’ is a brand new title by talented artist & limnologist Geo Rutherford. She has hand picked and hand painted a whole book about some of the weirdest and scariest water features on our wacky planet, and it’s hard to look away!
BONUS: If you haven’t checked out her informative spooky lake videos on social media, you are also in for a treat! Spooky Lake Month is my favorite time of the year! Find her at !”
Even though snow stays (hopefully!) a little farther in the future, we are getting ourselves prepped for the upcoming cozy season with this gorgeous new picture book, ‘Snow Steps’! A young girl moves to Minneapolis from warm, sunny Guyana, and works to find her footing in this new, snowy world. A gorgeous debut from local creator, Karen Latchana Kenney!
Join us on Saturday, November 9th at 10:30 AM for a cozy story time (and maybe some special treats!!!) ❄️ 🥾 ❤️
Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day 🌿

Whether it’s an adorable Halloween bedtime story, or a spine-tingler sure to give you nightmares, there’s something here for all you phantom fans! And who knows... you may find some more spooky spirits floating around the store, too! 👀
This week’s is the perfect read for this summer turning stick season weather! It’s Millie Fleur’s Poison Garden by Christy Mandin. Read what bookseller Tori had to say about it below. ☠️🪴
“Millie Fleur moves to Garden Glen, a town where the windows are spotless, hedges are perfectly pruned, and all the houses (and gardens) are identical, except hers. To make her new house feels more like home, she decides to plant a garden. Millie Fleur has an affinity for peculiar and prickly plants. The Garden Glen Rosebud Club calls her garden poisonous, however, Millie Fluer does eventually find people that admire her unique plants, teaching the town that just because things are different, doesn’t mean they are scary. This book invites us all to celebrate the wonderfully weird.”

We’re thrilled to welcome back our friend TY CHAPMAN back to Wild Rumpus for another picture book release! ‘James Finds the Beat’ is a tender story of a young boy whose buzzing nerves feel like a swarm of bumblebees, and he’s not sure how to make them go away. That is, until the beats begin. 🥁 🐝
Join us on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:30 AM for some books and beats, right here in Wild Rumpus!

This week’s comes from our Spooky Buyers Guide. It’s our new favorite YA horror book, Old Wounds by Logan-Ashley Kisner! Check out what bookseller Bo has to say about it.✨
“Erin and Max have fought plenty of demons. They survived a breakup (and it’s totally not awkward at all now), came out to their parents, and endured high school in a state where transgender teens like them are killed every year. But when they embark on a road trip together to escape Max’s transphobic family, they get stranded in a town that wants to trap them there and sacrifice them to an ancient beast who eats girls (and, in Max and Erin’s case, this is bad news for more reason than one). When the darkness surrounds them, these kids bite back. A frightening and radical read.” - Bo
