Assistantship to Build Evaluation Capacity in Local Government
The Hennepin-University Partnership (HUP), a program of the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA), is accepting applications for the 2024 HUP Evaluation Assistantship (HEA). The HEA provides paid, tuition-benefit earning year-long positions for two graduate research assistants to develop evaluation tools that help Hennepin County build capacity to make ongoing and long-term strategic decisions to support residents and reduce disparities. The 2024 evaluation topics include: HIV reduction among young Black men, and street-based housing outreach.

The Environmental Stewardship, Place, and Community Initiative, under the auspices of the Institute for Advanced Study, is seeking five graduate student mentors to help facilitate the Humanities Futures workshop this coming Spring semester. This is a paid mentorship opportunity, and food will be provided throughout the workshop.
What is the Humanities Futures Workshop?
The Humanities Futures Workshop is an intensive professional development workshop to introduce Indigenous and other underrepresented undergraduates to the possibilities of graduate education in the humanities for advancing their own commitments and careers. This workshop is offered to students at all UMN campuses and it is also open to students at tribal colleges, technical and community colleges, and other post-secondary institutions across Minnesota.
This workshop is funded through the Mellon Foundation and is part of a larger Environmental Stewardship, Place, and Community Initiative that focuses on centering Indigenous epistemologies and other ways of knowing to shape how we think about relationships with the planet and each other.
What is expected of graduate mentors?
Attend three in-person meeting prior to the workshop:
One planning meeting during Fall Semester
One planning meeting during Spring Semester
One meeting the day before the workshop to run through any last minute questions and to see the spaces.
Attend the entirety of the Workshop March 28-29, 2024,
Thursday, March 28, 2024, 2:30pm-8:00pm
Friday, March 29, 2024, 8:30am-5:00pm
Work with the group of mentors to plan and facilitate the professional development workshops and other activities. These workshops will be planned during the Fall and Spring Semester Meetings. CV/ Resume Workshop (50 minutes, small group)
Personal Statement workshop (50 minutes, small group)
Participate in a short panel discussion where you will be asked to share a bit about how you chose your program and research interests, in addition to highlighting things that you wish you had known in the application and decision process.
Help recruit undergraduate participants.
How will graduate mentors be compensated?
Graduate Students will be compensated for their time by receiving a one-time $1,000 payment once the workshop is completed.
Preference will be given to applicants who are Indigenous and/or other underrepresented identities, represent diverse disciplines, have interest in humanities education and/or institutional transformation, and/or have community engagement experience.
