The Jewish community, and all who wish to join, are gathering to mark one year since October 7, 2023.
The victims, including non-Jewish Israelis, came from many faiths and backgrounds, as well as held citizenship from twenty countries. We will remember those taken from us, the hostages recovered and still being held, the sacrifices of brave soldiers and civilians, and the innocent lives lost and uprooted.
Registration is required to attend, and space is limited. A livestream will also be available.

Last night, hundreds gathered at the Barry Family Campus in solidarity to mourn the passing of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Ori Danino, Almog Sarusi, Alexander Lobanov, and Carmel G*t, who were murdered by Hamas and found by the Israel Defense Forces in a Hamas tunnel in Gaza.

Community members sounded their shofars as we marked the beginning of the Jewish month of Elul, and joined together in song and prayer.

Thank you to all who came together. You can view the vigil at bit.ly/tcjewfolk-livestream.

We are devastated at the news that Hamas murdered Eden Yerushalmi z”l, Carmel G*t z”l, Almog Sarusi z”l, Alex Lubnov z”l, Ori Danino z”l, and American Hersh Goldberg-Polin z”l, whose story we have come to know so well through the tireless advocacy of his parents Rachel and Jon.

“Sometimes preparing for the worst doesn't make it any easier. I know their memories will be for a blessing and hope their families take some comfort from the love and support of so many whom they will never meet.” - Jim Cohen, CEO

Meet Toni Glotter! Toni is a Minneapolis-based multi-media artist. Her clean conceptual style is influenced by her earlier career as a graphic designer. Toni's education from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design emphasized concept and purpose first.

She is one of the five artists who will be live creating at A Gallery of Dreams, Rimon: The Minnesota Jewish Arts Council's Annual Fundraiser & Immersive Art Experience. Register today at bit.ly/a-gallery-of-dreams.

Toni's innovative “Papercuts” technique was created out of her desire to repurpose materials that would normally end up discarded. Toni manipulates paper strips by folding and gluing them to the substrate like puzzle pieces. What you see are the folded edges. When stacked the color or tone on the folded edges make up the image you see. With so much destruction in the world, creating is Toni’s contribution to the balance of what we destroy while abstractly preserving history. Repurposing everyday materials gives old materials a new life and meaning before they become obsolete.

Thanks to donations from our Minneapolis community, the soldiers were able to take supplies so that they can feel our support long after this dinner!

Lynn Lederman and Ken Raskin, participants on our Tikvatenu II: Volunteer & Solidarity Trip to Israel, share a unique volunteer opportunity and visit to the Hostage Forum in Tel Aviv.

Today, we painted the apartments of two elderly single Ethiopian women located in the one of the most underprivileged neighborhoods of Rehovot, Kiriyat Moshe. We entered their homes as total strangers with no common language, and left a few hours later with blessings of gratitude and warm hugs from both of them.

This opportunity was organized by an extraordinary 23-year-old man, named Yuval. We were privileged to hear his story of survival and injury at the Nova Music Festival. Yuval founded an NGO called Jesta that works to address the urgent needs of isolated elderly people in Israel. Yuval told us that this work has actually saved him.

Later in the day, we heard from Rebecca, a volunteer at the Hostage Forum in Tel Aviv.
She told us about the impressive grassroots formation and operation of the forum. Right now, the most urgent needs of the hostage families are mental health and financial support. Then, we meet Naama, who told us about her brother Omri, who was captured by Hamas terrorists in front of his two young children and wife on Kibbutz Nir Oz. It is our responsibility to ensure that his story and the stories of all of the hostages are not forgotten.

Both Yuval and Rebecca are inspiring examples of individuals who saw a problem and took matters into their own hands with tremendous results.

We received a thank you note meant for you.

This note was addressed to the Federation offices, but it was meant for you.

Without your help, Hannah and Rebekah might have missed making lifelong friends, gaining independence, and learning the stories and songs that will inspire them to pass their Judaism on to the next generation.

This isn't the only thank you note we've received that was meant for you—they come from all over the world.

You are heating the homes of elderly Holocaust survivors in the former Soviet Union.
