Mission is strategically located at the southern tip of Texas, along the Mexico border. Mission has a variety of nature parks, golf courses, shops, hotels, restaurants and the site of the Anzalduas International Bridge.
Check out this edition of Texas Highways Magazine featuring the Rio Grande Valley!
For the first time in the magazine’s history, we’ve dedicated an entire edition to a place unlike anywhere else in the country: the Rio Grande Valley. The four-county region on the tip of South Texas is known for its citrus production, South Padre Island beaches, and world-class birding. We produced an issue packed with these Valley gems and more.
In “The Magic Valley,” senior editor and RGV-raised Danielle Lopez writes about the region’s complicated history and the next generation of Valley natives working to make their home the best it can be. Music writer Cat Cardenas’ story “Stomp Your Feet, Clap, and Have a Good Time” follows the musicians working to keep conjunto music alive in the genre’s birthplace. And writer Ryan Cantu eats his way through the Valley in “Savor the Moment,” capturing what makes the region’s cuisine so delectable.
Throughout the rest of the issue, we guide you through the Valley’s natural wonders, offer an introspective essay on the RGV’s largest flea market, and interview Grammy winner Edgar Barrera, the young Latin hitmaker from McAllen.

From Womb-Mates to Work-Mates: Jacqueline & Juliana Falcon have never known a day without one another. The twins, who attended college and medical school together, are now officially first-year practicing doctors. The Falcon sisters began their professional careers this week with South Texas Health System's sister company, South Texas Health System Clinics, as family medicine physicians.
Born and raised in Rio Grande City, Jacqueline & Juliana both completed their undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin and attended medical school at Texas Tech University before completed their residency in the Rio Grande Valley. Getting to return home to complete their studies and now care for patients in the region, is a dream come true for them.
“We've always wanted to treat our community, the people that raised us and so we always wanted to get back here as soon as possible,” says Jacqueline.
First generation college graduates, Jacqueline & Juliana are the first in their family to pursue a career in healthcare. They're thrilled to be getting to give back to the local community.
“The Valley has a patient population that needs more doctors. So, I’m more than happy to come and help the community and the patients and the people around here,” says Juliana. “We love the people here. We love the Valley, so, we’re very happy to be able to take part in continuing to contribute to this community.”
South Texas Health System is proud to welcome Drs. Jacqueline & Juliana Falcon to the STHS family!
