Eleven years flies by when you spend your days stealing lunches, bowling for toddlers and getting your belly rubbed. As long as there have been shops there have been shop dogs, but there will never be another one like our boy Fisher. Thanks for everything, Fish-face!
With everything going on in our crazy world right now it is important to remember that people in our community are still being affected by cancer every day.
The Bicycle Hangar family was rocked when Hailey was diagnosed with leukemia, and I know that we could have definitely benefitted from the support that CSC provides to patients and families alike.
I'm proud as hell that Hailey is working so hard to bring this resource to Missoula. Check out all the awesome things CSC is doing, and if you can afford to donate, consider helping this amazing organization as they work to open a facility in Missoula.
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce to you one of our Founders, Hailey Kern. Here is her story:
I am a proud Okie who has resided in the beautiful Missoula county for 15 + years. I relish in this incredible community and want nothing more than to make it stronger for all those affected by cancer.
Six years ago in March I was diagnosed with ALL, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I was diagnosed on a Wednesday evening and started chemotherapy that Friday. It was a whirlwind of emotions. I have never felt less in control of my life than I did during treatment. I was 27 years old and had a loving husband at home, running our family owned business as well as parenting our one and half year old son. Life was already busy and feeling pretty big before I got sick. I learned so much about myself during treatment, about the family and friends that surrounded us, as well my own resiliency. When I came out of treatment I had a lot of questions- but what I realized immediately is that I was more scared coming out of treatment than I was during it. I really wanted to talk to people around my age going through this experience, or one like it but that resource wasn't attainable. I finished oral chemotherapy a little over two years after my initial diagnosis and from there I started to loosen my grip, and lean into my life again. I began therapy, art classes, regular exercise, exploring - LIVING. This is when I learned about Cancer Support Community and their mission to help everyone affected by Cancer. With two cancer centers in our community I thought it was prevalent to have a resource like this for our community. I hope you will join me in bringing this incredible resource to our town! Your donation will allow for all these resources to be free of charge!

Apparently, Fisher napped through a global bike shortage... We are taking precautions, but when it comes to selling bikes, it's business as usual at The Hangar.
Requirement #1 for Andrew’s new bike? Needs to be able to carry his tackle box. Well, we did our part, now get out there and hammer those fish!

Some slight changes to our safety plan. Our technicians will not be wearing gloves while checking in repairs. Instead, we will be washing our hands with soap and water after every customer interaction. Other than that, our staff has been diligent in our efforts to keep everyone who visits our store safe and healthy. You can also shop online at www.bicycle-hangar.com or giant-bicycles.com and we will deliver any order over $100 for free.
UPDATE 3/25: We appreciate solid discussion and are amazed at how far this post has traveled. This is a gentle request to please keep your comments civil. We know these are difficult times and tensions run high. Remember to treat each other with kindness and please refrain from profanity or insults in the comments.
ORIGINAL POST: We’re seeing a lot of people wearing gloves in the community. We want to take a moment to dispel some misconceptions. Gloves do not help prevent the spread of COVID-19 for the general population. Misusing gloves could create a false sense of security and deplete a resource needed by others, like health care workers. Gloves are not a sanitizing surface. If someone touches a surface contaminated with COVID, the virus gets on each additional item that they touch while wearing those gloves. Therefore delivery drivers, checkers at businesses, and others wearing gloves are not benefiting themselves or others, especially if they touch their faces with contaminated gloves.
Gloves are only beneficial against COVID-19 in the health care arena with trained staff who use them as personal protective equipment and change them between patients and tasks.
If you are concerned enough to wear gloves, wash your hands, or use hand sanitizer after touching unclean surfaces.
Please take the time to read the precautions that we are taking in our stores to keep our staff and customers safe. Slow down. Disinfect. Be patient. Shop local.
There once was a time when building the perfect bike meant meticulously picking out every since part. Thanks to Yeti Cycles, now it's as simple as picking your color and your pedals.
They forgot to mention the beer... the beer will be free.
First Friday is looking great at The Hangar Downtown thanks to our old pal and local artist Sean Keuch! Swing by for a beer and stay for another beer!
