Gull Boats & RV story

Gull Boats & RV in Missoula, MT was started in 1941 by Bob Anderson Sr., but back then it was simply called Gull Boats & RV. Bob Sr. started by manufacturing boats, out of an incredible new-fangled material called fiberglass, in his parents' garage, where the Depot Deck is currently located. In those days, it was unheard of to be a landlocked boat manufacturer. Despite this (or because of it), his boats became a huge success. Soon, Gull's dealer network spread all the way to Florida. Word of the quality of his boats was spreading.

In the late 1950's it became difficult finding enough skilled fiberglass workers this far inland to keep up with the growing demand, so Bob Anderson made the decision to curtail the building of boats, and become a retail outlet for boats, and motors instead. It was also around this time Gull Boats & RV became a Ski-Doo snowmobile dealer (now one of the oldest in the US) and a separate ski shop and SCUBA shop were added. Gull Ski has won Missoula's Choice Best Ski Shop many years in a row, and our Dive Center was recently listed by Underwater Journal as the oldest continually operated PADI locations in the world under the original ownership.

In the mid-70's, three of Bob Anderson's sons, Bob Jr., Denny, and Mike took over, after working there during their youth. As the business grew, the boys moved down the road, into a new larger location, and continued to expand the business. RV's were added 20 years ago, and things have been rocking & rolling ever since. We are proud to be Missoula's "original" boat dealer and look forward to serving the great-grandchildren of some of our Dad's first customers. Thanks for 70+ years Western Montana!
