Joel Edwards Alabama Barber
Hi, I'm Joel. I am a barber from Mobile, Alabama. I am passionate about my trade and enjoy helping people look and feel their best.
Mikes Barber Shop
Hello Mobile. What we are about to say is from the bottom of our hearts and we want everyone who is following us to be honestly informed. Today, after shutting our doors a month ago, we started accepting appointments again. Today, we took a necessary step to maintain our livelihood. Today, we were also interviewed by NBC 15 news to ask why we decided to open our doors to the public. And today, we were issued a cease and desist order by the city of Mobile, accompanied with a $500 fine for a violation of Mobile Health Department rules.
Today is also the day that we decided that we will come right back to this shop, and continue to serve our community tomorrow. This is not a joke, it is not an act of defiance, and it is not something that we are taking lightly. Mobile, this is our lives. Michael Edwards has been cutting hair in Mobile for almost 40 years. He has raised 5 children and helped raise 12 grandchildren. This is his trade. This is all he knows, and at 60 years old has no desire to try and learn something else. My name is Joel Edwards. I am Mike's son and business partner, and I have been cutting for 8 years. I have devoted myself to learning, and mastering every facet of my craft. From my devotion I have discovered a passion and love not only for barbering, but for people. It has become an integral part of my life to make sure that the people I serve look their best. Justin Bouchard, is a young man, who in only two years has built and developed a devoted loving clientele. He is a vital member of the team we have built, who relies on his ability to work to keep his lights on and roof over his head. Justin works diligently to try to give his fiance the wedding of her dreams this coming October. Brian Hawkins is our newest barber who is currently finishing barber school, and has faithfully spent the last year in our shop, not cutting, but watching and learning how to make our customers look and feel their best. We even have a local police officer who works with us from time to time. He was a barber for 30 years before deciding to serve his community by becoming an officer. I have chosen to keep him nameless for respect to him and his family.
Every barber who works in our shop, has a family, has a life, and has a home that we are all at risk of losing. I plead with everyone to understand why we are trying to work again. It is not because we have a desire to be defiant, we have a necessity to maintain a livelihood. None of the barbers that work in our shop, have received any type of assistance. We have gone a month without any type of pay and we are at the end of our rope. Today we were issued the cease and desist, but tomorrow this turns into something a little different. Tomorrow, we take another step. We will go from working to save our lives from further deterioration, to working because we feel that it is our constitutional right to do so. Tomorrow, when we begin accepting appointments, it will be because we refuse to let our rights be trampled upon unfairly. We have taken every precaution to make sure our clientele is safe and have in no way twisted any of our customers arms into receiving a haircut. We sanitize and make every customer feel secure as long as they are under our capes.
Now you have a little perspective as to why we have decided to continue on tomorrow. Now you understand this isn't a joke for us. This is a plea for you to support us and know that we are not intimidated. We are not scared of being backed into a corner. We are going to continue to love and support our community and our government. We just will not back down and we will fight for the rights that are inherently ours.
Hey Mobile, it has officially happened now, our shop has been closed by the state during this crisis. With all that in mind, if the need arises I have decided that I will be doing some house calls as long as everyone maintains proper hygienic practices. The best way to contact me being a text message. Stay safe during this mess and remember to wash your hands folks!

Not every day is going to be a good day. But its what you make of the not so good days that matters. If you struggle with anxiety or depression, youre not alone.. but the most important thing you can do for yourself is remember to love yourself.
Its funny when you are in a career where your job is to make people love you, but you end up creating friendships that will last lifetimes.
You never know exactly how life is going to go. Plans change, expectations rise and fall, and you dont have a choice but to go with the hand life has dealt you. But no matter how high or how low you are in life. You arent ever alone. No matter what, you are loved, you are forgiven, you are precious.
My boy Rod Stokes doing HUGE things in the music world! But still comes home to get faded! I'm so grateful for local business and the love! Go win the voice for the country boys back home Rod! @ Joel Edwards Alabama Barber
Find a career where you can wake up every morning and be excited to go to work, instead of waking up with dread. Love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life!
Attract what you expect from others. Reflect what you desire. Become what you respect, and mirror what you admire. Work, work, work.
It's the best feeling when you create and build friendships with people. The smile on someone's face after a fresh haircut.. makes every minute of my job worth it. @ Joel Edwards Alabama Barber
Any man with a nice beard will be quick to tell you it takes more effort than shaving. Trusting me with taking that responsibility means so much.
One of the things that creates a connection between my clients and myself, is attention to detail. From crisp line-ups and disappearing fade lines, to my clients personal life that they divulge to me, every single detail matters.
I truly have a passion for my craft. I love barbering, it's something I feel I was born to do. So while I love making other people look and feel their best, I think its important to remember to love myself too. Something that took me a long time to do.
I've been told.. (numerous times) that I have RBF while I cut hair.. But I personally feel like this is just concentration! I don't care though as long as the fade comes out clean!
Tuesday! First day of a barber's week! Its rainy and dreary in Mobile, so perfect time to come see me. I love you Mobile but we could use some sun.
Vegas with these amazing women is a once in a lifetime experience I'm so thankful for the opportunity to grow with these amazing people

9 months without a haircut is a long time and it was awesome to spend some time and get to know Ryan, more than the haircuts it's about the relationships you build with your clients, thank you for the opportunity to tame the beast brother. @ Mikes Barber Shop
