Our Story.
Formed in 1983, EarthCalc was a tiny company with two employees and a short list of clients. The company was formed as the brainchild of a contractor who wanted to use the new computerized estimating methods available and a telecom business owner with extra computing equipment lying idle. With little commitment from either owner the company chugged quietly along in the backroom of a telephone and data warehouse.
Michael Moradian Jr, then only 19 years old, joined EarthCalc for a part time summer job. He found that he enjoyed the analytical process and also found that he was good at it. Michael had been bored with school so he never excelled and had found himself in and out of minor trouble. Finding a job with purpose was exactly what he needed. He quickly took over managing the small team of employees. Slowly the word began getting out that EarthCalc was a better way of getting quantities than the old fashioned hand calculations done by estimators for decades.
Michael soon left EarthCalc for a job with one of his engineering clients. As an entry level draftsman he worked his way up through the company and learned the ins and outs of civil engineering. No classrooms, just the experience of doing the work. He had excellent mentors during that period that taught him more than just civil engineering. They taught him about managing and leading people, running a business, and creating success.
He had always kept in touch with his old boss from EarthCalc and one day found himself with the opportunity to buy the company. Still a small half-forgotten interest he could have EarthCalc at a bargain. He could see the potential in the idea and had always felt it was a wasted opportunity. He would see to it that the opportunity was realized.
