and carving rocks. Years later, he had an opportunity to work for a reputable mineral dealer, Rock H. Mr. Currier, as well as Keith Harshbarger, legendary pioneers in the mineral business, generously taught John everything they knew about minerals. After years of working in the business, he has gained a wealth of knowledge about rocks and minerals as well as the inner workings of the industry. A few months ago John’s wife, Christina, had the idea to open a small shop. The idea was born out of the desire to work after becoming “almost empty-nesters”. Her mind was spinning with ideas and with John’s extensive background, she said, “If there is anyone that can provide this area with a rock shop, it’s us.” If John is the brain behind this endeavor, Christina is the creative engine that really made Fasanarock what it is today. With a shop filled with customized furniture and detailed decorations, Fasanarock is very much a showcasing of her artistic flair and is lovingly referred to as, “My baby.”
These two people came together to make a great team and provide the people of Monrovia and beyond with a rock shop that has beautiful minerals, crystals, fossils, and more. To Monrovians, Fasanarock simply sprouted up one day but to John it is a long time dream fulfilled. Most important to him is to share what he has been given. “In many ways I have realized that what’s important is for people to pass on what they’ve learned to others.” To the small child, he would like to instill a love and fascination for minerals much like his grandfather and Aunt Dorothy did in him. To anyone who wants to learn more, he has much to offer. John often says, “You either like rocks or you don’t, and those that do love them!” Now he can say even more, “If you love rocks come and pay us a visit and if you don’t, come anyway you might find yourself surprised.”
