The Monroe-Gregg School District will acknowledge the service of local community members with an annual award named after Bill Fisher. Bill Fisher graduated from Monrovia in 1947 and was the principal of the high school in 1968. He became the second superintendent of Monroe-Gregg Schools and came out of retirement to become the principal at Hall Elementary. Bill Fisher is the only person to have been inducted into the Monrovia Alumni Hall of Fame, the Monrovia Athletic Hall of Fame, and to be named Grand Marshal of the Monrovia Festival.
-----------------------------------
Mrs. Judy Mobley was recently awarded the very first Bill Fisher Community Award. Judy graduated from Monrovia in 1972 and worked for Monroe-Gregg School District for thirty-five (35) years. Judy started her time at Hall Elementary, hired by Bill Fisher, and would eventually move to the high school to run the bookstore and treasurer positions. She and her late husband were heavily involved in little league baseball and softball, Babe Ruth, and band parent activities. Recently, Judy came out of retirement to help with the transition in the corporate office and was an integral part of the Alumni Association holding the position of Scholarship Committee Chair and Treasurer. According to Steve Reeder, Judy was the largest contributor to the local history project; including assisting with the annual veteran’s program, veteran banners, class composites, historical school display cases, and school tours.
Congratulations Mrs. Mobley! We appreciate your dedication to Monrovia and Monroe-Gregg Schools!
