Team SA Recycling at Terminal Island proudly sponsored and conquered the bridge this past Labor Day. The race is an annual tradition, offering a unique chance to traverse the historic Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, CA.

After 44 years of devoted service at our SA Recycling facility in Barberton, Ohio, we are saying farewell to a cherished employee. We invite you to join us in bidding goodbye to Bill "Brass Man" Simmons. We wish him all the best.

Yesterday the team at SA Recycling Elyria, OH assisted the EFD (Elyria Fire Dept.) in setting up an extrication training exercise. The well attended, simulated scenario involved “Rescue Randy” -an unassuming dummy with an appetite for risk- being placed behind the wheel of an SUV, which was then crushed by the grapple of our material handler and flipped over!

The scene was set, Captain Joe from the EFD called in the accident. One by one, fire trucks and emergency vehicles arrived onsite, just like they would in a real-life emergency! The first responders were quick to stabilize the SUV and assess the situation as other emergency personal arrived in the yard. Fortunately for Rescue Randy, the EFD is well equipped to handle emergencies like this and thanks to SA Recycling Elyria, OH- they are now better trained. The whole team enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to the next opportunity to assist our hometown heroes.

Our Terminal Island facility hosted The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting this week. Our Regional General Manager, Moises Figueroa took them on a tour of our operations. Special shoutout to the Port H&S Manager, Roy Hernandez for conducting the safety orientation and for guiding them to each operation site safely. The Board of Directors then enjoyed a traditional Peruvian lunch cooked by a fellow board member and the owner of Maya Restaurant located in the city of Wilmington. Supporting our community is our passion!

At the SA Recycling facility in Huntsville, AL, the Huntsville Fire Department utilized the Huntsville yard for a three-day intensive heavy rescue training session. They invited three distinct heavy rescue teams to execute the task of removing a substantial concrete block and "rescuing" the practice dummies positioned within the vehicles. The crews were not informed of the setup in advance, requiring them to formulate and execute a plan on the spot. This exercise aimed to replicate an incident from the previous year in Alabama, where a delivery truck entered a parking garage it couldn't fit into, resulting in a large concrete slab collapsing onto the truck's cab.

After the training concluded, the teams convened to review their successes and exchange insights on the various techniques employed. Observing each team's unique approach to addressing the identical challenge was particularly enlightening.

This 4th of July let's celebrate the spirit of independence by advancing towards a cleaner and more sustainable America. At SA Recycling, we dedicate ourselves to metal recycling and the preservation of our planet for the generations to come.

On June 27th, the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce celebrated their 120th Annual Awards & Installation Dinner. SA Recycling was honored for its significant contributions to environmental sustainability. The Chamber's Board of Directors unanimously chose SA Recycling for the Environmental Stewardship Award. Accepting the award for SA Recycling were TI’s Regional General Manager, Moises Figueroa, and Regional Environmental Manager, Valeria Sandoval.

Our SA Recycling Thousand Palms & Coachella teams were honored to sponsor the State of the City event for Palm Desert, California. As a significant and innovative hub within the Coachella Valley, Palm Desert plays a crucial role in the region. SA Recycling engaged with city officials, including Mayor Karina Quintanilla and City Councilmember Evan Trubee, to discuss air quality concerns following last year’s tropical storm Hilary. The conversation also covered the potential of our compost/mulch products in managing dust control. SA Recycling has successfully executed several dust control initiatives across the valley, with the most recent project for the City of Palm Desert located on the north side of the 10 freeway. This initiative is expected to mitigate the issue of blowing sand and dust, protecting the numerous vehicles that traverse this route. Further discussions explored additional methods to enhance the air quality for the city and the broader valley. The State of the City meeting was positive and forward-looking, filled with anticipation for the future. Our teams at the Thousand Palms and Coachella yards are committed to contributing significantly to the growth and development of not only Palm Desert but the entire Coachella Valley.

The Veterans Council of Chatham County, in collaboration with SA Recycling - Savannah Staley, Southern Motors Savannah CDJR, and Yancey Brothers, was honored to provide Donatos Pizza at the 3ID Salute to Summer Luncheon. We extend our gratitude for your service.

For the fifth consecutive year, SA Recycling proudly sponsored the Anaheim Community Foundation's State of the City Luncheon. This event unites community members, business leaders, and city officials to celebrate the accomplishments and future endeavors of Anaheim. SA Recycling seized the chance to connect, discover, and collaborate with fellow businesses and citizens of Anaheim, contributing to the community with proceeds supporting the Anaheim Community Foundation and its charitable programs and organizations. SA Recycling’s Tennessee Region was a Gold Level Sponsor exhibitor and participant at the Annual Tennessee Environmental Network’s Show of the South (TENSOS 2024) May 15-17 in Chattanooga, TN. SAR was one of 114 exhibitors at the event which was attended by nearly 1,000 participants. This event allowed us to showcase our company’s immense recycling capacity in the U.S. and how SAR is an integral and an essential part of the circular economy and sustainable energy future. And our presence allowed SA to pick up new suppliers and foster our relationships with existing customers, our regulators, and Chattanooga’s Mayor Tim Kelly. BIG thank you to SA’s Marketing Manager, Carl Daniels II, for designing the booth posters, Jeff Farano and Lindsay Maine for their recommendations and assistance with content, Operations Administrative Assistant, Tara Oaks and Regional GM Moises Figueroa for the drone video of Terminal Island and the “Life Cycle of a Vehicle” and “Vehicle Metal Recovery” posters.

Let's extend our warmest congratulations to Jesus Avila on his well-deserved retirement! His colleagues honored him with a luncheon on May 24th to mark this significant milestone. With a career spanning over 30 years, Jesus started at HUICA, progressed to Pacific Recycling, and ultimately joined SA Recycling. He dedicated his career to the Iron Ore Operations at the Long Beach Facility. We wish him a retirement filled with joyous moments and all the best in his future endeavors!

Our SA Recycling Thousand Palms facility recently conducted a training session for multiple fire departments from the Coachella Valley. The session was divided into two groups, focusing on vehicle dismantling techniques for emergency scenarios. Following the training, an appreciation luncheon was held to honor the first responders and thank them for their dedicated service.

Earlier this month, SAR El Centro and the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District conducted the Lawn Equipment Exchange Program, serving just over 210 residents of Imperial County. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the air pollution caused by gasoline-powered lawn equipment. Participants who turned in their gas-powered lawn equipment received battery powered equipment to help reduce air pollution.

The event marked a significant uptick in participation compared to previous years, making it a resounding success. Kudos to El Centro's General Manager, Freddie Reyes, and his dedicated team for their exceptional work!
