Our Mission
The Graduate Initiative in Russian Studies at the Middlebury Institute for International Studies, funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York, is a source for first-hand information about America for Russians, and about Russia for Americans. The initiative allows students with advanced Russian language skills to learn directly from visiting Russian experts as well as travel to and work in Russia.
The future of U.S. – Russian relations depends to a great extent upon mutual understanding of each other’s concerns and priorities. It is imperative that the next generation of U.S. specialists on Russia and Eurasia learn not only from Western discourse but directly from leading experts on Russia and Eurasia from the Russian Federation and other post-Soviet states.
Graduate Initiative in Russian Studies (GIRS) в Миддлберийском институте международных отношений, финансируемый корпорацией Карнеги в Нью-Йорке, является источником информации из первых рук об Америке для россиян, и о России для американцев. Инициатива позволяет студентам, владеющим очень высоким уровнем русского языка, как учиться прямо у российских экспертов, так и посещать Россию и даже работать там.
Будущее российско-американских отношений зависит в большой мере от взаимного понимания забот и приоритетов обеих сторон. Следующему поколению американских специалистов по России и Евразии нужно обязательно учиться не только у ведущих западных экспертов, но и у их коллег из Российской Федерации и других постсоветских стран.
