We would like to thank the 3rd generation of management from the Bishop and Parker families. We are all grateful for their leadership over the last few years and look forward to what the future holds for Bishop-Parker.

Matt Bishop started working at Bishop-Parker part-time in the warehouse when he was fifteen. He joined his father in the business full-time after graduating college. Matt is an active member at First Baptist Church in Montgomery. He has a great love of the outdoors including hunting and bush hogging.

Charles Parker started working at Bishop-Parker in 1991 after graduating from Auburn University. He has worked in sales and is currently the Vice President of Bishop-Parker. He is the father of two boys, Chase and Caden and has been married to Kim for 6 years. He enjoys spending time with his family, and keeping up with their sports.

John Parker joined the family business in 1998 after graduating from Auburn University. John manages our Warehouse store and is currently the President of Bishop-Parker. He and his wife Ashley have been married for 23 years and have one son, MacLeod. John enjoys whitewater rafting/kayaking and spending time with family.

We want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the 2nd generation at Bishop-Parker Furniture: Borum Bishop, Charlie Parker and Jimmy Parker.

Borum Bishop was born in 1922. He was accepted into college at 16 and graduated from Howard in Birmingham (currently Samford University) at 20.He started working at Bishop-Parker in 1942 and retired in 1987. During his time at Bishop-Parker, he worked in advertising, sales, banking and as President. He was married to Emma Lou for almost 60 years and they had two children, Susanne and Matt.

Charlie Parker was born in 1924. He attended Marion Military Institute where he played football, basketball and baseball (he had an amazing arm). In 1943 he joined the Army. After World War II he attended Auburn University before coming to work with his father. While at Bishop-Parker, he founded our Interior Design program. He was married to Sarah for 49 years and they had two children, Meg and Charles.

Jimmy Parker was born in 1930. He attended Huntingdon College until he joined the Army . When he returned he attended Auburn University where he graduated in 1955. Jimmy began working at Bishop-Parker after graduating. He worked in sales, advertising, buyer and became President of Bishop-Parker following Borum Bishop. He was married to Peggy Parker for over 56 years and they had two sons, Jim and John.

This month, we would like to thank the men who worked in our service department.

Harris Jones came to Bishop Parker shortly after WWII. He was a true artisan with touch-up and repairs. Mr. Harris had a beautiful singing voice (he sang at Boram and Emma Lou Bishop’s wedding).

H.L. Boggus spent his time during WWII in the military loading shells into artillery. After the war, he painted billboards, where he developed his talent for mixing and matching colors. He was very talented at refinishing furniture and a great asset to Bishop Parker.

Rodney Holland (not pictured) started at Bishop Parker as a delivery man. He was trained as a repair man by Harris Jones and H.L. Boggus. He was soft spoken and extremely talented.

Bob Delbridge came to Bishop Parker from another furniture store with years of talent and experience. He was an all around furniture man and led our service department for many years. Bob retired in 2017 to move to South Carolina to spend time with family and fish with his grandchildren.

Discover Inspiring New Art Made in the USA

After completing business college, Cindy interviewed with our founders Mr. Bishop and Mr. Parker and began her journey at Bishop-Parker Furniture. Over the next 40 years she was mentored by Charlie Parker, Jr. and Jimmy Parker. They passed along their knowledge of woods, furniture styles, carpet, rugs and window treatments. During Cindy’s time at Bishop Parker she could be found decorating a room, a whole home, or offices and apartment clubhouses all over the Southeast. Later, Cindy worked with Jimmy Parker to develop and coordinate our advertising. She worked closely with The Montgomery Advertiser, WSFA (thank you Lisa Beers!), many radio stations and was the face of Bishop-Parker on television commercials for many years. Cindy is enjoying retirement as of December 2019.

The 2nd Credit Manager at Bishop-Parker was William E. Younkin, commonly known to so many simply as Mr. Bill (affectionately called Sweet William by a few). He came to work at Bishop-Parker at the downtown location on Commerce Street in November of 1971 just after serving in the US Army. He requested to postpone his start date by a week, due to his father-in-law’s hay barn having burned down and he wanted to help take care of that situation before taking on the new position. Mr. Bishop and Mr. Parker were very caring and allowed him to start just before the Thanksgiving holiday. After training with Mr. Sanford, Bill moved to the new Bishop-Parker location on McGehee Road near the Montgomery Mall in 1973 where he remained as the Office and Credit Manager until his retirement in July of 2020. Over his 48+ year career at Bishop-Parker, many lifelong friendships were established with customers, who would come in on a monthly basis to see Mr. Bill and post their payments. They shared much laughter and many conversations of family events and neighborhood happenings. Bill and Sharlotte, his wife of 53 years, are enjoying retirement life at their home in Cecil, Alabama.
