Our Moorhead Fire Department crews went through the daunting (in this poster’s opinion) Confined Space Rescue Training and shared the tricks of the trade to help rescue those who are in a tight spot and need saving. Going through this training helps our Firefighter heroes become more comfortable using the equipment and tools within a restricted space.
Way to go, MFD--Your City of Moorhead, Minnesota Community appreciates all of you continuously honing your rescue skills for so many different scenarios!!!

The Moorhead Fire Department’s Incredible Ladder 1 Truck became Rudolph 🦌for the Xcel Energy Holiday Lights Parade held Saturday night.
Fire Fighter Wes held the reins and expertly guided Ladder 1 through the throngs of cheering Moorheadeans, many of them donning colorful holiday necklaces, fur tree hats🎄and Santa hats. As Ladder 1 glided along, Firefighter Wes would periodically blow the truck horn, much to the delight of the little ones pumping their arms up and down shouting, ‘blow the horn!’ 🚒☃️
MFD was happy to be a part of this Holiday Parade along with their Fire compadres from Fargo and West Fargo, and is thankful to Moorhead Police Department for keeping everyone safe all along the parade route. 💗
Holiday Cheer was definitely in the crisp, beautiful air! ❄️
Happy Holidays to all, and to all, a SAFE Night! City of Moorhead, Minnesota

During a break between rescue calls here at Moorhead Fire Department, Firefighter Nate took it upon himself to continue to hone his Forceable Entry skills and further train Firefighter Luke. Some unusually “bendy” pieces of wood provided a more unique training experience and way to use tools and positioning to force the door open, but of course these two blasted it open to rescue the (training pretend) people on the other side! 💪🧑‍🚒
Thank you for continually focusing on improving and enhancing your skills and techniques, MFD Crew, your City of Moorhead, Minnesota Community appreciates your smart and hard work!

Moorhead Fire Department was ABUZZZZ this morning with these little Trinity Pre-School cuties and their excited chatter and ENERGY touring Station #1. If we could have harnessed this energy it would have run all the Fire Trucks for days! 🤩 Firefighters Luke and Dean provided a super fun, interactive and informative tour; the kids loved climbing up and walking through the Fire Engine back seats! We had two future Firefighters and one future ambulance driver in the bunch. 🚒🚑 Firefighter Dean taught the little ones to not be afraid of Firefighters dressed in all their gear at a fire, helping them understand the Firefighters are there to help them and their families!

Moorhead Fire Department was honored to host some very special guests tied to our rich Heritage. Mary Remley Leiseth, her sister Virginia and a few other family and friends stopped by the Moorhead Fire Department to pay homage to the ladies' Father, F. I. “Tats” Remley (MFD’s third Fire Chief 1952-1974), and Grandfather, N. B. “Nick” Remley (Fire Chief 1915-1951), both of whom the MFD Remley Annex (built in 1983) is named after.
The Remley family brought photo albums with pictures of and notes about the Moorhead Fire Department from the past and shared with current Fire Chief, Jeff Wallin, and Fire Staff. (Mary also made delicious cake for the Firefighters 😊.) Chief Wallin and the Fire Crew provided an immersive tour of the Remley Annex and Station #1. The visitors were impressed with all of the training and certifications present-day Firefighters go through/need to achieve, the vast volume and type of emergencies they respond to, and the amazing and technical equipment and apparatuses used to rescue people and put out fires. Times certainly have changed in the world of Fire and Rescue—THANK YOU for all you do EVERY DAY for our City of Moorhead, Minnesota Community, Fire Crews!

Moorhead Fire Department is giving a HUGE Shout Out of Appreciation and Congratulations to Mary Arnholt, MoorHeart award recipient!
Mary is committed to helping keep her community safe by maintaining the accessibility to the fire hydrant near her home during the winter months through the City of Moorhead’s Adopt-a-Hydrant program. For the past 20 years, Mary has worked to keep the hydrant near her home clear of snow and ice to help protect her neighborhood, and so cute, using a snow blower that is almost as big as she is. ❄️ Hip-Hip-Hooray for Mary!!!

Another day at Moorhead Fire Department, another day of learning and keeping on the leading edge of medical protocol and equipment for Emergency Medical Response needs with EMT Refresher Training provided by Krisi from Sanford Ambulance.
In the past, due to safety restrictions, a Mother and her baby could not be transported in an ambulance together if they needed to be transported for medical attention. They each would have had to have been transported separately in different ambulances. Now, we have updated equipment, specialty straps, and strapping methods that allow First Responders to safely and securely strap a baby to their Mother’s chest so they can be transported together on one gurney in one ambulance. This ability to be body-to-body together is good for both baby and Mamma. Crews also got to work with newer equipment to secure and transport babies by themselves.
MFD continues to learn and evolve to better serve our City of Moorhead, Minnesota!

The Moorhead Fire Department had a great time interacting with everyone at the very safe (and a bit chilly!) City of Moorhead, Minnesota Monster Mash - Trunk or Treat Event handing out candy and Fire Badge stickers and watching all of the kid's (Big and Little 😉) eyes light up as they saw the Firefighters in their Firefighting gear and the incredible Fire Engine #1 🚒 with lights flashing. Here’s our Firefighter Luke with his Happy Little Pink Bunny and Beautiful Bunny Momma. ❤️

Some future little Firefighters enjoyed an INCREDIBLY FUN tour of Moorhead Fire Department Station #1 provided by Firefighter Nate.🚒 They came back with homemade thank you cards and Mommy made cookies in appreciation. 🔥❤️

The training NEVER STOPS here at Moorhead Fire Department.
This week, along with other types of training, the crews honed their vehicle extraction skills and techniques, with the more experienced Fire team members providing guidance and tips on how to use the multitude of incredibly strong tools to access mangled vehicles most quickly to rescue the people inside.
Please strive to be SAFE and AWARE on the streets in City of Moorhead, Minnesota, we want the Firefighters to be prepared, but not have to perform these vehicle extrications.

What, was Tom Cruise in town filming the next Mission Impossible?!?!
Close, it was your Moorhead Fire Department honing their Rope Rescue skills!
Firefighters had to rappel down to reach an injured party, assess their medical needs, then either secure them in the rescue sked (aka gurney/sled) or secure harnesses around their body and lift them to safety. Quite the workout climbing ropes up and down multiple stories, then securing and hoisting a 170-pound body safely and securely, but performing with your trusted team and using the correct rope technical methods, gear, knots, leverage and skills made for a thankful Mannequin, having been rescued (again and again).
Facilitated by ACK Technical Rescue Training Chris Kankelfritz, who is a fellow Fire Service person, so we're keeping it in the Fire Family and Community! City of Moorhead, Minnesota

The incredibly giving and artistic hands of the ladies of Our Savior's Lutheran Church Moorhead were at it again, this time crafting amazingly beautiful, soft and colorful EXTRA LARGE quilts for the Firefighter’s to have on their Rescue vehicles to help warm and calm those going through an emergency or trauma. The Moorhead Fire Department and Community of City of Moorhead, Minnesota are thankful for the time, effort and skill of these ladies—THANK YOU Eldora, Shirley, Margaret, Joann and Laurie!!!

Amidst the continued stream of Emergency calls for Moorhead Fire Department, the teams have scheduled trainings, perform multitudes of inspections, attend classes and perform community services.
However, they also need to perform continued maintenance on the tools, equipment and apparatuses that are used to save lives every day. During a couple days of this beautiful September weather, the shifts performed maintenance and testing of MFD’s supply of hoses.
The Firefighters use a variety of hose sizes, diameters/lengths, capacities, etc. etc. and they need to ensure that all hoses are in tip top condition.
Thank you for your hard work to help everyone keep safe, Firefighters! City of Moorhead, Minnesota

Earlier this summer, St. Joseph's School asked the Moorhead Fire Department to visit the school and participants in their Children’s Summer Program to talk about and show Fire Safety, the Firefighter’s uniforms and how they put them on, and all the details about the Fire Engines.
These lucky kiddos got to sit inside Fire Engine #1, and the Firefighters showed them all the tools featured in the Fire Engine—as Firefighter Loher says—it’s an Incredible, BIG Tool Box!!!

NO ONE can Extinguish the DRAGON FIRE burning in all Minnesota State University Moorhead students, staff and faculty!
However, MSUM Dragons can extinguish a small fire, say, in a dorm room, maybe someone left their mac & cheese on the stovetop too long... 😊
Moorhead Fire Department's Fire Marshal Stangeland and Firefighter Theis provided the Resident Assistants, mentors and safety staff with Fire Safety information and tips.
Following the presentation in-doors, it was outside to the parking lot for everyone to learn how to use a fire extinguisher to put out a real (small and controlled) fire!
These students were continually cheering-on and encouraging one another, with their great attitudes turning this fire safety learning opportunity into a fun team-building exercise! Definitely displaying MSUM Dragon, and City of Moorhead, Minnesota Values & Pride!
