Abby and Kasey's visit to Piperwood Farms
Kim and Tim Wiles are a wonderful couple who bought this gorgeous piece of land after it was tied up for a year. They knew it was the right spot for them, so they kept their hopes up and their dream came true! They purchased 8.3 acres, 6.1 acres can be farmed. They planted sunflowers and winter peas to attract animals such as deer and birds along with planting 100 pounds of seed to grow micro greens. Their plan is to add a high tunnel and a green house. For the sunflower season, they planted in April for the June bloom. They are building a barn house! The design includes living, office and event space.
Thank you the visit! In awe of the flowers, structure being built and land!
Johnny Yancey is a favorite at the Morganton Farmers Market due to his delicious peaches 🍑 🍑 🍑!! His father began the peach farm and when he passed in 1996, with the encouragement of Johnny’s mother - he took over the farm. At its height Johnny had 6 locations with over 2,000 trees and a variety of 34 different types. Johnny now has about 200 trees at 2 locations. It has been 7 years since Johnny has planted a tree. He makes sure to taste a peach everyday for quality control! His peaches are delicious and if you haven’t gotten a bag or bucket of them, you should! Thanks, Johnny for the great visit!
A farmering we will go, a farming we will go 🎼🎤🎶
Abby & Kasey went to visit Matt Gragg today (in their cutest overalls) and they were highly impressed with his knowledge and know how.
Matt’s Stats:
8 dogs
First generation chicken farmer with 1.5 years under his belt
Currently has 125+ chickens on a three week rotation with plans to expand in the near future
10 turkeys
And tons and tons of feed (chickens go through a bag a day)
It's almost watermelon time. Do you know how to spot deliciousness?
It’s that time of year so thought we’d share again a guide to picking the best watermelon.
Farmers Celebrity sighting at the mini farmers market! Jennifer Bell and Johnny Yancey are super stars ✨ Johnny ( first name only needed - like Cher ) reported that his peaches will be ready for market in 2-3 weeks!! That’s RIPE …the peaches will be at the market this season and we couldn’t be happier !! 🍑 He’s a peach of a person for swinging by to tell us this news!
