Seated Sun Salute

Mindfulness when sick: when not feeling well, try to be very gentle on oneself and not feel guilty or the need to push through when the body and mind need rest. "Wellness Syndrome" is a term for feeling like "if only I had been healthier..." and can be harmful, as can ignoring health issues. Instead, taking time to slow down, take a mindful listen to the body, and practicing self-compassion are ways to allow the body and mind to heal. Here is a short, easy session that one could do upright or laying down that may help. After my 3yo had a sinus infection, I got her bugs and had a very painful ear infection (covid negative). Yesterday little formal could be done but I could rest in awareness for a few seconds at a time. A poignant wave of compassion for so many others suffering from respiratory ailments and covid came spontaneously at one low point and gave a sense of purpose or usefulness to the experience, instead of just feeling that I was missing out on life. I feel this came from past practice of the loving kindness and compassion meditations, so regular sessions when all is well can also lead to benefits during time of need. One can be open to whatever experience one has, based on where one is at right now. Just self-compassion and gentlenss is a profound step.
