My name is Danielle Salentro, I am a former graduate of your program and the current Acting Assistant District Administrator in the PA Harrisburg Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. I am reaching out to you with some information on internship opportunities for your students. Due to several retirements in our area we now have several openings in the Harrisburg District Office. We offer a paid internship with the possibility of permanent employment (and a pay bump) after 6 months. We meet all requirements for internships and for RSA grant recipients to complete their years of employment. PA OVR now also offers the opportunity to telework up to 3 days a week. Have you ever come across a strange-looking insect scurrying across your garden or porch? With its unique appearance and rapid movements, it may have frightened you. But before you grab your shoe or a can of bug spray, let me introduce myself. I am a Stenopelmatus, also known as the Jerusalem cricket, Niño Fajardo, Mata venados, Cara de Niño, or Madre de Alacrán.

Despite my intimidating nicknames, I am not a spider or a scorpion. I am, however, closely related to them. And while some people may mistake me for a harmful insect, I have no poison. My only defense mechanism is the tweezers in my mouth that I use to eat organic waste near garden plants.

But don't be too quick to dismiss me, for I have an essential role to play in the environment. I help with plant growth by aerating the soil and removing excess dirt, allowing for better oxygenation. Without me and my fellow Stenopelmatus, the soil would become compacted, making it difficult for plants to grow.

Despite my importance, many people are quick to squash me or spray me with pesticides when they see me scurrying around. But please, don't kill me. I am harmless and only seeking a safe place to hide and food to sustain me.

And while I may not have a long lifespan, only living for one year, I am still a valuable member of the ecosystem. So the next time you see me, remember that I am a Stenopelmatus, not a threat, and let me go on my way.
