Hi everyone, I have decided to cancel the Celebration of Life for Bryon. The timing just isn’t working considering all that is going on. I’m sad, but it is what it is. We will consider trying again in the spring. ***If you are interested in coming to a future celebration, please contact me by email to be added to the guest list. I won’t be posting about it here. Thanks! [email protected]

Hey y’all! Let’s try this one more time. I have rescheduled the Celebration of Life for Bryon to Sunday, Nov 15th from 2-4. We will keep the Halloween theme. Costume optional. Bring a finger food to share if you’d like to! $7 per car to get in to the park. If Cooper extends the modified Phase 3 (we will know the week before) we will cancel it. Hope to see you there.

10/21/2020

Hey y’all. We will have to reschedule Bryons celebration. Cooper has us still restricted for at least 3 more weeks. Will get back to you with a new date. Tentatively Nov 16th. Stay tuned. 😔

Hi Everyone! As you know Halloween was one of Bryon’s most favorite of holidays! We have decided to have a Halloween themed Celebration of Life for him! Obviously we’ve had to wait for things to calm down and be safer to gather in time. We have reserved a shelter at Jordan Lake. There is plenty of space for us all to spread out and practice social distancing. We will play music, tell stories and laugh and remember our friend. Costumes are totally optional and feel free to bring a finger food to share. We will have non-alcoholic beverages for everyone. There is a $7 per vehicle fee to get into the park.

When: ***Sunday, Oct 25th from 2-4 pm

Where: Ebenezer Church Recreational Area at Jordan Lake Shelter #1
280 State Park Rd, Apex, NC 27523

*** This access is closed until Phase 3 begins tentatively on Oct 23rd. If Phase 3 is postponed further we will reschedule the date. Will keep you all posted. Hope you can join us! Please RSVP to this post if you can make it! Thanks!

Hi everyone! Hope you all are doing well and staying safe. We will be planning a celebration of life for Bryon hopefully in the near future. We want to do it up big and need to wait until the restrictions are able to be lifted more and we can all gather safely. So, I will keep you all posted if you want to join us, come by and tell a story or a joke or help us sing some KISS songs. 😉 We had Bryon’s door logo framed and made a memorial which is hanging up at Sola. We miss him terribly and this brings us all joy to see. Wanted to share it with you all. Take care!

Winston is going to be fostered through Triangle Beagle rescue. Thank you all for sharing the post. If you have interest in adopting him, please contact them!😃

05/29/2020

Thank you all, we have several local families coming to meet Winston. We will keep you posted!🙏🏻

UPDATE: We have several families interested so please no more shares. Thank you!

Ok friends! I need your help. This is Winston. He’s Bryon’s boy. He’s a beagle/hound mix. He needs a good home. He’s super sweet and docile, loves kids and other dogs. I believe he’s also fine with cats. He is around 2, needs to be fixed. We have a donation pot started to cover his neutering and he’s also getting Heartworm treatment with Frontline. He loves walks, car rides and has a big playful beagle bark. We need to find him a good home and fast. Bryons family will be leaving town soon and we don’t want him to go the shelter. 😢💔 Please share!! He needs a yard and a family that can give him attention and love. Thank you!

We are sorry, this is the hardest post to write. Sadly my father passed away at 10:25 pm. Please know he went very peacefully and very quietly as he wanted. It is his wish to not have a funeral or memorial service, but rather he wished that everyone celebrate his life in a manner fitting to how you knew him. If you would like to make a donation in his honor, we will post information tomorrow. We thank everyone for all the kind words, thoughts, well wishes and prayers that have been offered these last few days.

05/27/2020

Thank you everyone for all kind words and support over the last few days. We read your posts to Bryon as they come in. On Sunday, Bryon was moved to the Hospice center and will remain here for his final days. We have had many requests to schedule a visit with Bryon, but due to strict policies and restrictions in place we are not able to schedule in person visits. If you would like to talk with him or do a video chat through Facebook messenger, we can certainly arrange for that to happen. You can post a comment here and either Kathy, Wendy, or Andrew will contact you to set that up. Again thank you for all the support.

Hello just a quick update. Dad is doing better. They have given him a continuous stream of morphine now so that he is in no pain. Lots of resting but they stated he is very strong so we have lots of postives to work with. We thank everyone for their kind words and will keep updating as best we can. Thank you.

05/25/2020

Hello this i Bryon's daughter Katherine Thornton. Since most everyone has informed I will start doing updates here to save some time. My dad is doing well. His breathing has improved and he is starting to show more signs of alertness. He is able to hear and understand us when we speak to him. We have told him your messages when we receive them. I will keep updating as best I can. Thank you for all your kind words.

Bryon Update: Mr. Bryon’s cancer has progressed rapidly over the last couple weeks. He is now in hospice care, surrounded by friends and family. Please pray for his peace and comfort as he transitions. He loved being your barber and will miss you all very much. Thanks to all of you for all the years of support and friendship. We will keep you updated. ❤️

Some "Behind the scenes" pictures from the parade as well as some during and after.

05/19/2020

It looks like my daughter, Katherine Thornton, got together with some of my work family, Erica Jaber, Margy Sheppard, Myra Dyer Murphy and Jessi Johnson and a few others. They surprised me with a KISS themed parade. Some tears were shed. I can't confirm who shed the tears but I'm glad there were no close ups of me on the video. Thanks to everyone involved.

04/24/2020

I apologize but I'm getting a huge amount of personal replies to my last post and I feel I need to clarify. Yes my cancer has entered the terminal stage. That is the reason I am closing. I apologize for any confusion my last post may have caused. Thank you for understanding.

Hello Everyone!
Hi,
I hope this finds you and your family healthy and safe during this unique time. I'm sure that just like me you are anxious for life to get back to normal, or something reasonably close to normal.
As I'm sure you know by now, Governor Cooper has extended the stay at home order until at least May 8th and most likely the soonest that Salons/barbershops will reopen is late May or even early June. This is tough news for everyone. What I am about to tell you may make things even tougher.

I'm sure you are aware of the fact that I have been battling neck cancer for the last two years. Due to a continued decline in my health I have decided to close Mister Bryon's of Cary permanently. This decision does not come lightly. I have found true joy in my work and consider all of you as friends more than just clients. I will be shutting down the Mister Bryon's website immediately. For updates please go to the Mister Bryon's page or feel free to send me a friend request on Facebook.

I have quite a bit of retail product on hand plus I have some furniture and equipment I would like to sell. So, after the stay at home order is lifted I will be holding a one or two day "Going out of Business" sale. I will post when that is on the Mister Bryon's page.

I want each of you to know how much of a pleasure serving you has been. It took until the age of 45 to find what really gave me true joy. I'm sorry it has to end after such a short time. If you would like to contact me please do so in email, text, or postal mail. Please do not call as unfortunately talking hurts my neck.

My contact information: Bryon T. McKay
2001 Valley Drive
Clayton, NC, 27520

From the bottom of my heart I want to thank each and everyone of you for all you have done for me over these last 10 years and of course all of your continued thoughts, prayers and well wishes.

All of my love,

Mister Bryon

🔥🔥🔥Attention all NC stylist.....I think there’s some confusion in what the governor said, so I hope this will help
1-The stay at home order is extended until May 8th 5:00pm
2- meaning phase 1 will not start until then (if the cases level or go down if they go up this could extend even further)
3- each phase will last at least 2 weeks
4-stylist/ Barbers are in the phase 2
5- if cases slow or start to drop then phase 2 will begin if they go up then there will not be a phase 2.

So let’s say phase 1 starts on May 8th then we wait 2 weeks and everything is good then you’re looking at May 22nd for phase 2 to start. Just trying to help and clear up things a bit. I’ve seen several post saying it’s May 8th for our industry to open back up and it’s truly not. I know we’re feeling all kinds of emotions right now. Let's just take this one day at a time. I hope everyone is doing well. Take care and stay healthy.

Looks about right.

I would like to offer up a recommendation to any of my Fayetteville friends or anyone heading that way. Try Brooklyn Pizzeria on Ramsey st. Matt and his crew will take good care of you during these trying times. Great food! Great people!

Ok folks it's time for a great announcement!!! My daughter Katherine McKay and her fiance David Thornton are getting married this Friday April 10th. This is not what they had planned but Covid-19 has put a bend in everyone's plans. So here is their solution. They are coming here to my house on Friday morning and we will have a small personal ceremony to make it all legal. They will schedule the big formal ceremony after all this pandemic stuff has passed. So to all my family and friends, I will be doing a Facebook live session thru my personal Facebook account on Friday morning starting around 11am. Please feel free to tune in and help them celebrate the next chapter in their lives. For those wondering, all social distancing precautions will be taken. I have a huge yard so it wont be a problem. They couldn't have the ceremony they wanted so please tune in to help make this a special event for them. See you Friday, April 10th at 11am. Feel free to share this announcement as needed.

To the Chernoch family: Thank you for the lovely card. It helped brighten my day.

Please, I beg you my friends, do NOT try this at home!!!

Something to think about.

It's illegal to ask for a hair or spa appointment at home during the pandemic :: WRAL.com If you're looking for a hair stylist or a masseuse to provide those services at your home during the statewide order, don't. State officials say it's illegal and could put you and the service provider in deep trouble.

Friends. Well here is the announcement I was hoping not to make. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, I have been advised by my Dr not to work as I am in the high risk category. Effective immediately Mister Bryon's is closed. I hope it will only last a couple of weeks. After two weeks my Dr and I will decide if it will be ok to return. I want to thank everyone for their understanding. This is a tough time for our entire country. I'm sure if we all just keep our heads about us we will get through this. Thank you again for all your prayers, thoughts and well wishes. "Never give up, never surrender!"

02/17/2020

Update: Well, my Dr has cleared me to return to work. Of course, guided by what I feel I can do. I will be back in the shop tomorrow and we will see how it goes. Thank you to everyone. I really appreciate al the thoughts, well wishes and prayers. Well see how it goes.
"Never give up, never surrender!!"

Update: I'm home!! Eight days in the hospital really sucks but hey, whatcha gonna do? I'm going to need some time to adjust to my new normal. I'm still not exactly sure when I'll be back to work. I'm hoping it will be soon. I ask for more of your patience. Thank you for all your prayers, good thoughts and well wishes. "Never give up, never surrender!!"

Update: so, I have had a tracheotomy and a g-tube put in. Sounds complicated but on paper should make my life easier. Discharge is set for Thursday morning but can of course change. All is progressing well. Hope to be back to work soon but if experience has taught me nothing, it's that I CANNOT push myself to hard to soon. Thank you all! My spirit feels so good when I see how many people are wishing me well. See you all very soon.
