"Samsung has unveiled a new RAM module that shows the potential of DDR5 memory in terms of speed and capacity. The 512GB DDR5 module is the first to use High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) tech, delivering 7,200 Mbps speeds — over double that of DDR4, Samsung said. Right now, it's aimed at data-hungry supercomputing, AI and machine learning functions, but DDR5 will eventually find its way to regular PCs, boosting gaming and other applications."

We have also received multiple reports and questions about various scams from our customers. A new one is the Amazon customer service scam. The caller will say that there’s been a large order on your Amazon account as a pretense to access your computer to cancel it. Beware of calls like this. If you believe you’ve been the victim of a scam, contact your bank directly and law enforcement.
The Surry County Sheriff’s Office received several complaints within the past few days involving a scam in our area. The complainant stated they received a call from a man on the phone identified himself as Deputy Mark Richardson with the sheriff's office. He continued to say the complainant had missed jury duty and a warrant had been issued for their arrest. The man said they could prevent being arrested if they pay the penalty over the phone, which would require them to put cash on a pre-paid card.
This is a scam. The Surry County Sheriff's Office or any other law enforcement agency will never call you and request money over the phone. If you receive a phone call like this or any call you believe is a scam, please call (336) 401-8900 and report it the incident.
Thank you,
Sheriff Steve C. Hiatt
SCAM ALERT 🚨:
We have seen a significant rise in reported scams. There are two very common scam scripts. Please be aware of these and know that Microsoft and other software security firms will NEVER CALL YOU and will not ask for payment over the phone.
1. The first scam happens after you get a popup on your screen stating that your computer has a virus or that your network has been compromised. It may be accompanied by other threatening messages and sounds. The alert instructs you to call a phone number. A “technician” then begins a script about installing fake network security. You will be guided through steps to connect the scammer to your computer. You will be asked for payment either through a credit, debit, or even a gift card.
2. The second scam we have heard about quite a bit comes from a call stating that you are eligible for a refund. They will walk you through logging into your bank account. They will edit the page to make it appear as though you received more than you were supposed to, when in reality, you have not received any refund at all. The scam artist will then instruct you to purchase a gift card to pay them back the difference.
Please be aware of these scams. These phone numbers can also come from websites claiming to be support for Amazon, CenturyLink, Microsoft, Roku, Apple, and many others. It is always best to make sure you get support numbers from a trusted source, like a bill or documents you received with a device. If you ever receive a call that you are unsure about, feel free to call us at (336) 719-0678. If you or a loved one has been a victim of a scam call your bank and local police to report it.
We will be closed Thursday and Friday this week. We will resume normal hours on Monday, July 22nd.
