Sew Happy
All things sewing. I have been sewing for many years. Now in my retirement years, I have time to spend more time doing what I love.
Not only do I create new, I do alterations and mending.
Update on Emily’s Memory Quilt project:
All 6x6” squares are now sewn together to form 13 x 13” blocks. I have used the crocheted edging on some of the blocks.
Next step will be to sew the blocks to the batting and use creative stitching to complete the look .
Watch this space for the next phase of the quilting process.
First phase of Emily’s Memory Quilt completed.
168 - 6 1/2” x 6 1/2” squares cut out of her baby blankets
42 - 13 1/2” x 13 1/2” squares cut out of quilters batting.
Phase two is to create a block of four out of the blanket squares.
Reupholstered these outdoor cushions: two High Back chairs, two standard chairs and two ottoman cushions. I have made these covers removable (which the original were not) and covered the inners too (they were just upholstery batting layered). I also reinforced the seats as they were collapsing. I am sure my client is going to be over the moon. I am awaiting a photo of the cushions on the actual chairs - to complete my project.
Getting ready to make a memory quilt for my granddaughter, Emily. I have a pile of her baby blankets which I will use. Have been studying up on quilting - no better way to learn than to dive in!
Finally got a photo of my great-niece, McKenna Grace wearing a cardigan I knitted for her a couple of months back. That quizzical look is because her Mum was trying to get her to smile… no luck though. McKenna is now 12 weeks old and this cardigan should last her to around a year old.
So rewarding seeing my garments made with love being worn
A client asked me to make a pair of running shorts for him. I had to cut a pattern from the existing shorts (they are his favorites) and then constructed the shorts. They came out fantastic even if I say so myself.
A client of mine is preparing a nursery for her grandchild whose arrival is expected in June. She needed a chair cover altered as she had bought one that was made for a larger chair. We recovered the cushions and altered the cover to fit a lot better. I also made a little bolster cushion to complete the look. All we need now is baby to arrive.
Hand knitted this fair isle sweater for my friend back home in South Africa in time for their winter season. This is a Drops Design pattern ‘Night Shades’ knitted with Drops Karisma wool.
Hi all, I am now formally launching my at home business and in this process I felt it appropriate to change the name to Sew Happy. This is simple and says exactly what my little business is about. Thank you for following my projects as I have taken the time to refine the scope of my business. My main focus will be all things sewing. From clothing to upholstery : anything that requires a machine to make. I have a domestic and an industrial sewing machine allowing me to sew all types of fabrics. A key part of my business will be alterations and mending.
Made this little sweater and beanie for Emily’s teacher whose baby boy is due around Valentine’s day this month.
Edge of the Forest sweater by Drops Design hand knitted in Drops Merino Superfine yarn for my friend .
Woolbird - Highland Pullover knitted in Yarn Bee Ethereal Eyelash yarn in the color muted teal. Emily loves the soft fluffy feel of this yarn. We’re happy with the outcome!
Cheers to new beginnings, cherished memories, and the wonderful journey that lies ahead. Happy New Year to you and your loved ones! As the clock strikes midnight, may your heart be filled with hope, and your spirit with renewed determination. Wishing you a Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas to you and yours. Thank you for supporting my creative activities.
🎄 🎄
Made some custom cushion covers for my niece for her birthday this month! So very happy that she (and my Sacha) are happy with the outcome.
My machines have been busy creating custom fitted pants for my friend Jennifer. Black, cream and rust all in the same style. It’s not easy finding the right fit pants when one needs a custom fit to accommodate medical challenges. But here we have it…nothing is impossible with a little care and skill.
As promised … the new upholstery looks fabulous on the chair!
Another upholstery project completed. Recovered chair cushions and made a small bolster cushion to match. Will post a pic of these on the chair when I get it from the client.
Happy Thanksgiving folks.
❤️🦃🍁🧡
.pepper.dot has grown since her last knitted jacket, we knitted her another one in time for winter.
Completed a little ‘Sloppy Joe’ sweater for Baby Bo who is undergoing chemo at this time. Sending her love so much love and prayers for a full recovery
Edge of the Woods Jumper by Drops Design… I hand knitted this a while back for my g-nephew Sacha, today he wore it to school. So happy with how it fits.
Memory Cushions made from Girl Scout uniforms. I had such an amazing time putting this together in a meaningful way. Channeled my own memories of my days as a Girl Guide. This young lady was a real busy bee, earning some amazing badges and stars for selling Girl Scout Cookies - something most of us here look forward to each year.
Outdoor Cushions set for my friend Sharon. So very happy with how these turned out. Check out my custom labels.
Looks fabulous in its new spot and the owner is beyond happy with the outcome!
Another project done! Antique rocker and footstool reupholstered. I learn new skills with every project - this one was about placing tacks to finish off the edging.
.the.dapple.doxie needed a cover for her crate … so we made her a cover! Quite happy with the outcome if I say so myself
Bag making is definitely a skill to be learned … so this is a start to what I hope will develop into a range of custom utility pouches/bags/totes etc. who knows I might even get to making a leather bag too (you never know)
Next project up : an antique rocking chair with the cutest little footstool. I am going to enjoy reviving this piece!
Antique Glider and footstool done! I loved doing this and seeing this piece take on a new life!
