In Vegas we also have .whitlow3 , , competing is the No-Gi World Championships.

The only Gym in Tennessee with a Adult World Champion that is from Tennessee , now the only Gym in Tennessee with a ADCC Open Champion!

Not 1 , or 2 but 3 ADCC Open Champions. Why is this significant. The ADCC opens may not have the name recognition to the layman as the No Gi World Championships but so far every one I have attended has been as difficult as the World Championships.

I have seen current world champions and current #1 ranked IBJJF Athletes defeated in the first couple rounds. There are no teammate close outs. Heel hooks are legal for ALL skill divisions. And you actually have to win a match for Bronze, the IBJJF gives 2 bronze medals out (which cheapens the placement). With the stalling calls being so much more aggressive combined with no frivolous DQs for reaping or doing a good mat return , the ruleset makes for exciting fun matches.

Can’t express how Proud I am of everyone. It is very difficult to build Home Grown Champions. Other coaches will attempt to poach your students, injuries, relationships, inner gym personality conflicts and career changes make it difficult.

But if you can get a group of like minded people , with a definite Cheif aim to work and stay together for several years. You can create a Dynasty. It can’t be done alone.

Let’s call it…. Tennesseean Jiu-Jitsu…. 👐

Happy Halloween! Phoenix MMA Classes will be cancelled on October 31st for Halloween!

This weekend we also have ADCC Orlando , we may have class cancellations towards the end of the week.

9/2/2023 Wins his 1st World Championship!!! Nearly 5 Years ago Hunter stepped on the mats with no prior grappling experience. He made the commitment to become a World Champion and has held up his end of the bargain. Practice 6-7 days a week. Injuries, heartbreak , setbacks and letdowns. Winning the smallest of local shows and coming up short (2nd Place) at the National Championship. His key ingredient has been commitment over time. Lots of people think mental toughness is how much you can endure , to me mental toughness is how LONG can you endure. Can you get your heart broken and come right back. This is the true price of winning a World Title.

Yes he is married , yes he works a Full time job. Yes he has a mortgage. If you just cycled through those thoughts before you read this post please identify the limiting beliefs that you have acquired. You can change them whenever you want, but you must make a large commitment. Choose your North Star.

Several people have asked if Hunter now gets his “Purple Belt”.

Hunter Won the Master World Championships, only a handful of Tennessean’s have done this.

But the Adult No Gi World Championships are in December. If Hunter wins , he will become the 1st Adult No Gi World Champion from Tennessee. There has only been 1 Tennessean to win a Adult World Championship for Gi. When Hunter wins in December Phoenix MMA will have the only Adult World Champions Born in Tennessee, Raised in Tennessee and Trained in Tennessee under the same roof 👐
