Nonprofit kitten rescue based in southern New Jersey
Kitkat Playroom is a foster-based 501(c)(3) neonatal kitten rescue located in southern New Jersey (Philadelphia region.) We save felines during their most vulnerable and needy stage; provide them veterinary care, love and warmth, and social skills. When they are big and strong enough, we spay/neuter and vaccinate all kittens in our care before we look for loving, carefully-screened forever homes f
This may or may not be a surprise: Wyatt is staying with me for good. š„° While my goal for fosters is most often adoption, and I successfully find homes for 99% of them, sometimes itās not in their best interest to leave. Wyatt has multiple, extensive medical conditions that require a very specific regimen of blended food and medications. Anytime he has been hospitalized, he regresses under someone elseās care. I know Wyattās life will be shorter than usual, and I want him to have the very best chance at a happy, comfortable time for as long as possible. So, thatās with me! Heās technically a forever foster ā not going anywhere but also ābelongingā to all of us. Thank you for entrusting his life with me and continuing to support his care.
The Woodland Animals are starting to play! These six bottle babies are 2 1/2 weeks and just discovered they have legs and feet that they can wiggle around. We often call this stage āwhappy paws.ā š Itās like slow-mo wrestling! These babies will join Wyatt in a few weeks as long as they remain healthy. His last friends were just adopted, so I found him some new buddies. š„°
So, Wyatt has surprised us once again. He found his voice! A few days ago, Wyatt started meowing, like real cat meow. He is now Chatty Cathy, telling us all about his day. At first, we thought he was saying he missed his foster sisters who were gone for their spay, but he hasnāt stopped talking since theyāve returned. Of course, we donāt speak Wyatt so I donāt know what heās trying to tell us ā I was alarmed and concerned at first, but there is nothing else out of the ordinary going on, so I now believe he simply learned how to shout and in typical Wyatt fashion, he does it with GUSTO!
Also, notice his facial fur is growing back. š„°
Shouldāve named this one Monkey. (Her name is Bunny.) The kittens are divided in the incubator because one of the kittens (Bunny is top suspect) is sibling suckling. She decided a divider canāt stop her.
Mama Samoa and her eight baby kittens were all adopted and they ALL have instagram accounts so make sure youāre following each one!
š
This family was such a joy to foster and Iām so proud how silly and lovey each one turned out after their time here. I love seeing updates pop up with the kittens being goofballs in their new homes, more adorable than ever. Best wishes to all of the Cookies!
š ADOPTABLE YOUNG CAT IN SOUTH JERSEY š
Those ear floofs! That magnificent tail! I know! Rarely in our lives do we get to meet a young lady as well-rounded and marvelous as our Dove. She is everything you could wish for in a companion: intelligent, beautiful, playful, talkative, and entertaining. Doveās nature is gentle and inquisitive, with a joy for life like a big floofy kitten and the sweetest and endearing face that will be your personal sunshine, every day of the week! She is so very lovey, appreciating pets, scritches, and lying close to you to appreciate your company.
Doveās permanent head tilt and frequent blep are sure to charm everyone she meets. It makes her look like, āArenāt I the sweetest?ā
As for playing, Dove really is a big kitten and absolutely loves chasing interactive toys, climbing cat trees, and most especially playing with balls and prey toys that she can have a wild time bat-bat-batting and hop hop pouncing. She dances for wand toys, gracefully (and sometimes comically), because all of that kitten-like energy can sometimes cause one to take an adorable tumble. Wouldnāt you like to add this lovely and loving lady to your family? Dove would absolutely love to know you!

Wyatt LOVES pets and puts his whole body into it, purrs like a truck engine, and squeezes his eyes closed in pleasure. His tiny t**h even gets elevator butt. One of the best feelings on earth is cuddling this boy!
Wyattās birthday bash encore is TODAY at noon EST! Join us when we open the cards and presents that arrived after his first celebration. Weāll be kicking it off in the Playroom at https://www.youtube.com/live/kDy0CcCEcL4. Hope to see you there!
Everything is fine here with all the cats and kittens. I donāt have much free time to post updates at the moment because I rescued this six-pack of 10-day-olds and I bottle feed them every 2 hours around the clock. Catching naps or getting a snack whenever I can. š¤
Wyatt had the most incredible birthday celebration EVER thanks to all of your cards and gifts! I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support to make this day extra special for our dear boy. If you watched the livestream, you heard an original song by one of our volunteers from Germany which brought me to tears.
Iām sorry that some gifts were not here in time to open at his party. We have received so many cards and gifts that arrived afterward that I am holding a SECOND gift opening this Sunday at noon!
Thank you so much for loving this boy as much as I do. š§”

Is Harmony for real? How is she so cute? Can you even stand it?
Wyatt sure is a special little boy. Born on February 18, 2024, he is nearly 6 months old and is the size of an 8-week-old. He has underdeveloped lungs, a serious heart condition, hydrocephalus, a jaw deformity, and stunted growth. Yet, that doesnāt fully describe Wyatt.
Wyatt is joyful, snuggly, curious, food-driven, and playful. He is equally precious and strong.
I have fought my very hardest for Wyattās health. Heās seen every specialty available except oncology and top doctors in their fields. Armed with a full body CT scan, most of the mysteries are solved.
Unfortunately, weāve reached a point where weāve exhausted all possible treatment options. The new internist confirmed weāre already treating him with everything possible. Iāll continue all his current meds, but there are simply no additional medications, no procedures, no tests that can be added to help. Iāve done absolutely everything I possibly can.
But heās not done yet! Wyatt continues to live brightly and enthusiastically! Although his time on Earth is limited, I am committed to enjoying every minute with him and providing him a fulfilling, comfortable life, however long that is. It could be 1 month, 6 months, a year. We donāt know.
I love him with all my heart. He is an amazing boy with a lot of fight still. š§” I wish I had better news, but donāt give up on him.
Please join us on Sunday as we celebrate his half birthday. š„³ You donāt want to miss it!
On the way to Wyattās new internal medicine doctor.

WYATT HIT 2LBS TONIGHT!!! Right before his 6 month birthday, HE DID IT!!! This is a monumental accomplishment and I could not be more proud of this boy.
Look at this magnificent beauty! Dove just moved into the Nursery with her two babies. Sheāll be looking for a home in the near future! Sheās a young girl with a lot of energy and an adorable, permanent head tilt. Check out the Peace Babies on their livestream at YouTube.com/kitkatplayroom.
The Answer weāve all been waiting months for! Why canāt Wyatt close his mouth? Can his mouth be fixed?
Wyattās dentists reviewed his CT scans and we finally can answer the two most common questions weāre asked about him:
WHY CANāT WYATT CLOSE HIS MOUTH? Wyatt was born with a congenital condition called temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysplasia. This means that the ball and socket on both sides of his jaw are severely misshapen and do not fit well together. Additionally, Wyattās left side has minor subluxation, which means his joint is partially dislocated.
CAN WYATTāS JAW BE FIXED? Itās possible, but any of his options require lengthy anesthesia and based on Wyattās near death experience at anesthesia last time, we wonāt be trying it again unless absolutely necessary. UC Davis is attempting jaw replacement surgery in dogs, and itās something we could consider in the future if he ever is well enough for surgery. Since Wyatt has learned how to eat on his own a proper amount of food, weāve opted not to pursue any surgical options at this time.
IS WYATT IN PAIN?
Nope! Because Wyatt was born with his jaw deformity and itās not due to trauma, there is no pain. Itās just the way he is!
How does it feel to finally get these answers? Iām not bummed that Wyattās little tongue will always stick out, are you? š„°
Paxās head tilt is totally gone! He still has a bit of paralysis in his right eye, but thatās improving every day. Itās still a mystery what caused such a severe head tilt, but it looks like his medications worked! Weāre so happy that Pax pulled through and is feeling so much better.
After returning from the hospital, Wyatt shedded a LOT of fur, and his face and chest look partly bald. Iām certain itās due to the shock of anesthesia or his rapid weight loss, or both. And hopefully just temporary!
If you are unable to send Wyatt a gift for his half-birthday, please consider mailing him a birthday card! I will read every card to him at his party on Sunday.

Fawn had an orthopedic consult and we discovered something FASCINATING about her!
Fawn came to us several weeks ago with severely twisted hind legs. She manages to āhopā in order to get places, and even climbs towers with ease! Fawn uses the litterbox perfectly and wrestles with her kitty friends. Thereās just one thing about Fawn that makes her very different from a typical catā¦
Sheās missing both fibulas in her hind legs! The tibia and fibula go hand in hand to make the shin and calf bones in your leg. Fawn only has one of those bones - the tibia! Because her foot bones had nothing to connect to, the bottoms of her legs twisted and curved over time. The bone is justā¦ missing.
Her vet does not believe surgery is necessary and we agree. Fawn is perfectly capable and happy in her current state and there are no longterm concerns.
This genetic abnormality is so unique!
Pssst.. this special kitten is available for adoption! She needs no extra accommodations but she would LOVE a young, friendly kitty to play with. Sheās obsessed with other cats. Apply to adopt at kitkatplayroom.com/adopt
Wyattās 6 Month Birthday is coming up on August 18 and weāll be throwing him a Big Half-Birthday Bash! Join us on his YouTube livestream to watch Wyatt open his gifts and taste some special treats. š„³ If youād like to send Wyatt a (small) gift to open, please mail it to:

If you previously sent him suitcase gifts, Wyatt will be opening those, too!
Six months is a huge accomplishment for a kitten like Wyatt and we want him to enjoy his day to the fullest. He likes small balls and things that roll, ball tracks, ribbons, feathers, comfy soft beds, and colorful toys. Heās not into fast-moving electronic toys. Please donāt send him food or treats. We have him on a very specific diet.
Wyattās dentists, neurologist, and new internist are currently reviewing his CT scans. Once Iāve had conversations about their findings, Iāll start sharing with you.
Wyatt gets all three hour-long snuggler visits with his kitten friends now! He does great on room air during his recess and doesnāt struggle or turn purple. š„³ Somehow, despite how terrible Wyattās lungs are, he continues to adapt to the unthinkable! Once his hour is up, he goes back in oxygen for a few hours.
Last night, Wyatt reached an ALL-TIME HIGH weight of 1lb 13.9oz! Check out his weight chart, especially the weigh-ins since he came home (to Momās food) on August 1: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aVzuhIdXEzyDulmfsmo2J__Q_tKhSx7JKa4AppVjZZk/edit
Heās doing really great!
Pax is improving! While we still arenāt sure exactly what caused Paxās sudden and severe head tilt, itās getting noticeably better after several days of steroids and antibiotics. Heās been reunited with his mom and sister, and is well on the way to recovery. š„³
Pax was hospitalized recently when he acquired a sudden, severe head tilt. Curiously, his mom also has a head tilt, so we first considered something contagious or genetic. Shortly after being admitted, the right side of Paxās face suffered partial paralysis and he was unable to blink his eye.
The most obvious affliction, toxoplasmosis, was ruled out when the antibody test returned negative. This surprised all of us! And left us back at square one.
Pax was discharged on some medications yesterday and is largely the same, although weāve seen some minor improvement after adding a steroid. Weāre monitoring his progress and hope to see him make a full recovery soon from this mystery condition!
The Peace Babies are having a rough go. Harmony is in my incubator, not happy about it, dramatically throwing herself around š because her mom stopped nursing her and she developed an upper respiratory infection.
Her brother Pax is hospitalized with a severe head tilt which might be toxoplasmosis ā weāre pulling his momās blood tonight to test for antibodies. The vet pulled his blood for a PCR test.
Mama Dove also has a head tilt which makes this whole thing so mysterious. Hopefully we get some answers soon and this family can reunite and get back on track!
Iām working on Wyatt packs to mail out while Wyatt comes around to visit me. Iām so excited to share that weāve found a new, highly recommended internist who I canāt wait to meet Wyatt!
In the meantime, his neurologist, dentists, and cardiologist are reviewing his CT scans and Iām hoping to hear their insights soon.
There is still time to donate with a MATCHING GIFT of $10,000! Throughout the month of August, any website donation will also receive a super fun Wyatt pack filled with stickers, a magnet, and a notecard.

We welcomed this 6-week-old girl today! Wynne suffered a bite to her back as a tiny baby, which left her paralyzed in both hind legs. She is incontinent and cannot control her bladder or bowels. Although most paralysis cases are permanent, we will pursue X-rays and other diagnostics to determine if Wynne can regain movement in her back legs. Many vets will recommend euthanasia for paralyzed kitties, but we know thatās unnecessary. We will set her up for long-term success. Shout out your favorite paralyzed cats who are thriving with wonky legs!
Wyatt must be feeling better because this is the first time heās ever wanted to come out of oxygen on his own!
Unfortunately, I am having trouble finding doctors who are willing to fight for Wyatt. His long-time internist told me there is nothing he can do about his lungs and he recommends euthanasia.
Itās just not an option. Wyatt is ā right this minute ā wandering around my living room and using the scratchers WITH GUSTO! He plays, he snuggles, he isnāt in distress. Anyone who knows Wyatt knows he loves life! I know what a kitten suffering looks like and Wyatt isnāt it.
Also, if anyone can recommend an internal medicine doctor in the Philadelphia area, Iām open to suggestions.
Also also, yes, Wyatt makes a terrible mess with his food. His area is cleaned several times a day.
