“The slow build” is a phrase I use often with many of my first-time lip filler patients. The psychology of the first lip filler experience is one that often involves apprehension and fear of unnatural looking results, coupled with the inevitable peanut gallery at home in the form of spouses or other family members voicing fears over the decision. Add to that the first two weeks that involve some bruising, swelling ano temporary lumps/bumps, and what started as a simple filler appointment quickly becomes a complex psychological journey for both the patient and the injector. That’s why, as seen in these photos, often a half syringe/or a less robust filler will be placed initially. Once the patient and family become comfortable with the process, then the patient can decide if he or she is happy with the final results or if the addition of a little more filler and/or a slightly more robust product is warranted. By using the slow build approach, the apprehensive patient is provided with periodic slow changes that will get them to the results they desire in a manor which is comfortable to them.”
