Congratulations to Dr. Hughes who was presented with a plaque from Mount Pleasant Police today for her help at the scene of an accident. We are so proud to have her on our team! Way to go Dr. Hughes!

The SC Law Enforcement Division assisted 416 human trafficking survivors from 440 cases throughout South Carolina in 2022. Of the total number of victims, 399 were minors, while 17 were adults. This likely is only a small fraction of the actual problem. The South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force Blue Campaign and the SCMA Bioethics Committee invites you to wear blue on January 11 to raise awareness for human trafficking. Between 50-88% of the people trafficked have accessed health care services during their trafficking situations. Be aware of red flags and report any suspicious behavior to the number below:

For adult patients:

-Patient is reluctant to explain or has inconsistencies when asked about injuries
-Patient is not aware of his/her location (city, state)
-Patient does not have a cell phone or has multiple cell phones
-Patient does not have identification or the ID presented does not appear to the be the patient
-Patient is continually receiving calls and/or refuses to be separated from phone when asked
-Someone is speaking for the patient
-Patient offers to pay cash for medical services

For pediatric patients:

-History of running away
-History of illicit drug use
-Patient has tattoos
-DJJ and/or DSS involvement
-Sexually active (particularly at a young age and/or with multiple partners)

Meet our Mount Pleasant Pediatrics Family! Nurse Jennifer works with Dr. Herring and has been at MPP for almost 5 years. She loves watching children grow and change, and her favorite infant stage is 6-9 months. Outside of the office, she spends her time reading, practicing yoga, hiking and she also enjoys plants and a good craft beer.

It’s that time of year again! Summer is fast approaching, so will the needs for Camp Forms/Sports Physicals and Immunization Records. Did you know if you come to your annual well visit you may not need a sports physical? If we have seen you for your well visit in the last 12mo, this counts as a sports physical. There may be some circumstances when the Dr will request to see you to update vital signs and measurements. When you drop off the forms please have all pages filled out with as much patient information as possible. Most of the sports physical forms come with the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation- History Form, this needs to be reviewed by the Physician before signing your physical form, please make sure that this is completely filled out PRIOR to dropping off the Sports form. Please allow us 48-72 hours to get these filled out for you. We will not call you when the forms are ready for pick up. Let us know the easiest way to get them back to you; fax, email, or will you pick up? If you want them emailed back to you, please leave us the email address you would like them sent to. If you need the right away, pick up is the most efficient.

Mount Pleasant Pediatrics will be closing early (approximately 2pm) in anticipation of forecasted severe storms. If you need emergency medical attention please go to the nearest hospital or children's hospital. The doctor on-call will address urgent calls only, all other calls will be received and addressed the next business day. Stay safe
