⭐️⭐️⭐️ Jon's Plumbing & Heating – 25th Anniversary - Employee Spotlight ⭐️⭐️⭐️

You may recognize Dustin as our drain clearing and underground line replacement expert. He has been diagnosing and repairing drain line issues so long, that we have divided his experience up into “Ages” … “Timber Age” … “Stone Age” … “Clay Age” … “Cast Iron Age” … “Orangeburg Age” … “PVC Age” … LOL

Well, he may not be as old as we make him out to be, but he has seen a lot of crazy stuff when it comes to drain lines. Dustin’s journey into the plumbing trade is pretty unique. Here’s his story in his own words:

"Truth be told, I never wanted to be a plumber.

"I always felt that my calling was to work with God's troubled youth. I spent several years doing just that at a residential treatment center. While working there, I saw a lot of young men turn their lives around from being involved in gangs to becoming productive members of society. I still stay in contact with several of the boys, and a few of them have become strong husbands and fathers. The best part was seeing a lot of the young men turn to Christ and accepting Him into their hearts.

"When I found out that my career at the treatment center was coming to an end, I reached out to an old friend who helped me get a job at a drain cleaning company in Columbus. That’s when my plumbing career started. I learned very quickly that I was very good at interacting with customers, which was due to my empathetic nature. I was able to put myself in their shoes and see their situation from their point of view. This enabled me to help them with their plumbing issues while at the same time helping them feel at ease.

"After a number of years working in Columbus, I was approached by a friend who was applying for a head football coaching position at a local high school. He asked me if I would join his coaching staff which really excited me. However, this presented a problem … how could I work in Columbus AND have a flexible enough schedule to be able to get off work early each summer and fall so I could be a part of the coaching staff?

"After thinking about it, I decided to start sending my resume' to some local plumbing companies. Jon’s reached out to me for an interview, and we discussed not only my plumbing experience, but also my desire to be a coach. Jon was willing to work with me, so that I could return to working with youth … this time as a football coach! And that’s how my career at Jon's started.

"Right away the first thing I noticed was the family atmosphere at Jon's. The best part about working at Jon's is that I am still able to interact and help customers through plumbing, AND I am able to work with youth while coaching high school football. It has been a WIN-WIN experience, and, if you have ever been a football coach, you KNOW that we love to WIN!”
