Shelters across the country are struggling. Intake remains constant and adoptions continue to wane. Access to affordable vet care, the cost of housing, and even the cost of food has impacted family's ability to keep their pets. The same financial pressures that lead people to surrender their pets are the same ones preventing potential adopters from adding a pet into their home.

So far in August, over 1,000 new animals have come in to ACC. This is in addition to the 800 animals already in our care at the start of the month. All of these animals require care and support from our dedicated team. In order to keep up with this demand, we are hiring additional staff, recruiting new volunteers, partnering with influencers to encourage adoptions and working with families to try and keep pets in their homes.

We are asking for your help to get through these summer months. Here is how you can get started today:

Adopt: We have hundreds of pets that are available for adoption today. Adoption fees start at $25 and include vaccinations, microchips and spay/neuter surgeries. Go to nycacc.app to view all of them today.

Foster: Taking a pet or a litter of kittens into your home temporarily will help us save lives by opening up new kennels for incoming pets. You can find out more information on our website: https://www.nycacc.org/foster

Help Lost Pets Get Back Home: If you find a stray pet, help them get back home by walking through the neighborhood, posting their photo to , and taking steps to get them back to their families before bringing them to the shelter. Help us to Draw Attention to Adoption at our brand new Queens Shelter!

Young Artist Sadie Berk and ACC Community Kids are once again partnering up for a free art workshop to “Draw Attention to Adoption” at our new location in Queens! We will host two stand-alone, 1.5 hour long art making sessions on Saturday, August 31st and on Sunday, September 1, where young people ages 8-15 can create portraits of animals who are looking for homes! The finished portraits will then be used to promote adoption and help find the animals in our care their forever homes!

🌸CAT SOCIALIZERS AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED🌸
This summer has not been a good summer for animals. Owner surrenders are out of control all over the country. We have taken in many owner surrenders and have been helping city shelters by taking some of their animals, both dogs and cats (and we won’t even mention kitten season which is WAY out of control). We have many cats that need a kind hand and patient person to just sit with them, get to know them, pet them, SOCIALIZE THEM. We are looking for volunteers to come to our Long Beach shelter and spend time with our cats. We have a few that are sweet but scared. It would so help getting them adopted.

We are also in DESPERATE need for volunteers to help clean and maintain our cat rooms.

This is SO IMPORTANT. It’s a win win situation, you get to hang with cats but not have the responsibility at home!!!

Foster needed

Help save the Nature Center! Please sign the petition urging the Town of Greenburgh Board to take immediate action and renew its 25-year contract with the Nature Center. The terms of this contract have greatly benefited the Town and the community over the past 50 years. Your support can help ensure that Greenburgh Nature Center continues to flourish for years to come, well beyond 2050. Thank You!

Unfortunately even though New Rochelle Humane has the contract with Mount Vernon they are not obligated to help . Which puts the burden on much smaller orgs that can’t handle this magnitude of cats but they still step up to the plate , it has now cost Friends over $12,000 to vet all of these cats , their funds will soon be depleted . They are literally begging for help . Fosters, adopters , funds and other rescue org’s support to step up and help .
