As residents plan for hunting trips, American Medical Response wants to remind hunters that safety should always remain top of mind and offers these tips for hunters this season:

Tell someone before you go and leave notes. Make sure a friend or family member knows where you plan to hunt and when you plan to return. Put plans in writing, leaving one with a friend and one in your vehicle.

Check the weather before you leave. Weather can change rapidly, so be aware of the forecast and remain alert to changing conditions when hunting.

Familiarize yourself with the terrain. Make sure you know the area where you will be hunting.

Dress and pack appropriately. Make sure you are dressed and prepared for changing weather conditions. Be sure to check state and local requirements for high visibility attire for you and any canine companions.

Carry a first aid kit and familiarize yourself with how to use it. While no one plans to get hurt while enjoying the outdoors, it does happen. Be prepared with necessary first aid items.

Always be alert to your surroundings and what others in your party are doing.

Clearly identify your target before discharging your firearm.

The holidays are here again, and as friends, family and co-workers gather to celebrate the season, American Medical Response is reminding partygoers that safety should remain top of mind. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2019, one person was killed every 52 minutes from a drunk-driving crash.

Ride share. Don’t get behind the wheel if you have been drinking or allow a friend to drive if they have had too much to drink. Request a ride share or have them request a ride share.

Have a designated driver. For guests who may not indulge, offer non-alcoholic beverages.

Report drunk drivers. If you suspect someone on the road could be drunk, call 911 immediately.
