It seems that narrative imagery is having a bit of a 'moment' in the ceramics world today. If that is so, it works for me! For one thing, it is a perfect format for working out distance, depth of field, and modeling - three related but very distinct painting techniques.

Way back in my student days we were taught to equate boundaries with hindrance and limitation, to be avoided at all cost. Nothing should restrain you from doing your own thing. But as I transition to my dottage years, I find that what's really at play here is how the style you work in (ie: boundaries) is a powerful tool for focusing your concentration. Find a style you love and lean into it!

And a big shout out to Pieter Bruegel the Elder for mentoring me (a potter with no painting background) in the rather intimidating challenge of depicting large crowds of people!

Plates reflecting life here. Today Baxter our pup chased a possum into the woods next to the house. A tangled briar filled spot. It was a morning of keeping him away from that spot. When all I wanted to do was sit sipping a cuppa doing Wordle. For a moment I thought it was a skunk, thought I smelled skunk. Thank goodness it wasn’t cause that’s awful.
Yesterday morning the cat brought Joe a rat. Which fortunately was caught outside not inside as depicted, which is awful too trust me.
