Meet our New Program Director - Marn-Yee Lee
I am honored to introduce myself as the new Program Director of Leadership Mountain View (LMV). Originally from Malaysia, I came to the US on a scholarship to attend Brown University, where I earned degrees in Computer Science and Environmental Studies. My career began at Sapient and Goldman Sachs, managing a global software development team across the US, Europe, and Asia.
After working in the startup and consulting sectors, I decided to pursue my passion for sustainability, leading me to a path of community involvement and advocacy.
When I moved to the Bay Area, I fell in love with Mountain View's diversity, met my husband, and raised two wonderful children. I became an active community volunteer, focusing on sustainability and education and helped start Tessellations School in Cupertino. At the encouragement of several LMV alumni, I joined the Class of 2022. Like many of you, I was deeply inspired by how the program connects us to the people and organizations that make this city special.
To give back, I joined the LMV Advisory Council in 2023 and 2024, where I helped improve our e-newsletter and relaunch our social media presence. It was a pleasure working with other alumni to enhance the experience for each new class. One highlight was co-creating Sustainability Day in 2022, alongside former LMV Program Director, Brian Kosinski, where we proudly educated future Mountain View leaders on critical topics like climate change.
As the new Program Director, I am thrilled to build on the strong foundation established by my predecessors. My vision for LMV is to create a space where we can engage in meaningful discussions on important topics and cultivate diverse cohorts that reflect the richness of our community. I am especially passionate about empowering our future leaders to shape a brighter and more sustainable future. With my background in corporate, nonprofit, and government roles, I am looking forward to getting to know the LMV Class of 2025 and more of our wonderful alumni community in the days ahead.
- Marn-Yee

Some quotes from our recent Police and Fire Day.
“I loved how 'hands on' these rotations were, and that the MVPD officers were so accessible and happy to answer questions. … I’m really grateful for the experience, and the day has made me so grateful for our amazing MV police department!"
- Class member
“I didn’t know what the on-the-ground, daily realities of life are for Fire Fighters, so seeing the Fire Station was really eye opening for me! These folks are saving lives and helping people in distress every day—true heroes.”

The Class of 2024 had a great day at LinkedIn on January 19th.
Education Day started with an overview of education here in Mountain View from Devon Conley, Mountain View Whisman School District Board Trustee. Our morning continued with a panel of esteemed local education leaders followed by campus visits to four local schools.
In the afternoon, we heard presentations from critical educational support organizations such as Mentor Tutor Connection, Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF), Mountain View/Los Altos High School Foundation (MVLA), as well as a trio of Mountain View High School juniors talking about their experiences within the Avid program (Advancement via Individual Determination). Sal Khan (founder of Khan Academy) joined us by Zoom and talked about his new projects as well as answering questions from the class. We concluded with a rare exhale and moment of reflection (these days are so packed!).
A few comments from the class:
School Visits: I love LMV field trips! It's rare to get a tour of a school as an adult who doesn't work in education, so this was special for me. I loved touring.
Castro Elementary School. It was eye-opening to hear about the students and teachers, and how teachers and other staff are supporting their students' education.
Education Panel: This was one of the highlights of the day for me. All of the panelists shared ideas that were progressive and insightful, and their passion and energy were infectious.
AVID Panel: The best part was hearing firsthand from the students about the success and positive impacts this program is making. Very inspiring.
Thanks Devon Conley for coming out to support LMV Education Day at LinkedIn campus. We learned a lot about the school district!
Spent Friday morning with Leadership Mountain View's Class of 2024 discussing the education ecosystem here in Mountain View. (2020 is still the best class ever!)
A partnership for our LMV's recent Health and Human Services. day.
Understanding climate change is vital for Mountain View's future leaders.
On Sustainability Day, the Class of 2024 started with a primer on the cause and solutions from Marn-Yee Lee's (Class of 2022) Climate Reality presentation. Our city's Sustainability Department, led by Danielle Lee ’23, talked about mitigation and resilience at the city level. Council Member Pat Showalter ’96 talked about sea level rise mitigation, while Mohan Gurunathan presented about the importance of a plant-based diet for carbon drawdown. Several local nonprofits rounded the day sharing how they're driving a more sustainable Mountain View. Participants left the day with tools and ideas about how they too can make changes in their own lives and leverage their circle of influence to drive changes more broadly.
Thank you to Google for hosting us at their new public space, the Huddle@Gradient Canopy! We enjoyed learning more about how Google engaged in the Living Building Challenge.
This is LMV's third Sustainability Day. If you're a pre-2022 alum, are you interested in learning/chatting about sustainability? Let us know below.

A 2023 class project culminated a few weeks ago in the first ever Urban Land Institute (ULI) UrbanPlan workshop in Mountain View. A diverse group came together to co-create a visionary plan for a (realistic but imagined) blighted neighborhood, and to learn about each other.
The ULI Urban Plan workshop teaches in an interactive way (using maps, legos, financial spreadsheets and role-playing) the challenges of meeting and exceeding environmental, equity, and planning requirements, while preserving historic buildings and/or homeless shelters, building mixed-income housing, retail & office buildings, and creating jobs, community and green space.
Equally as important as learning about urban development was the opportunity for participants to get to know fellow community members. Through conversations about the fictional neighborhood, city employees, planners, concerned neighbors, and representatives of vulnerable populations came to cherish points of alignment and to understand and respect other points of view. These human connections will prove valuable as the community grapples with our current and future real development issues.
Kudos to LMV Class of '23 team members Ines Koch, Jay Chodagam, Danielle Lee & Rajiv Mehta for this terrific accomplishment, and thanks to LMV Director Brian Kosinski for the inspiration to put together this workshop.
Thanks also to Sares Regis Group of Northern California and Andersen Windows + Doors for their corporate sponsorship of the event, and to Leadership Sunnyvale for partnering with LMV and providing additional funding and food, and last but not least to the City of Mountain View for providing the venue and event coordination.

How do our local governments work?
This year's class just got a taste of it at the LMV City & Government Day!
- City Manager Kimbra McCarthy gave an overview of MV governance
- State Senator Josh Becker shared his love for “innovative solutions to big public problems"
- County Commissioner Joe Simitian provided an advocacy masterclass
- City Council members Pat Showalter, Margaret Abe-Koga and Ellen Kamei shared their journeys to public service
- City planners John Lang and Eric Anderson ran a local land use planning simulation
A packed but eye opening day, for sure.
