The medical/insurance industries are completely broken and non-functional in their current state of affairs. Wait times for procedures and appointments are completely out of control, the cost of insurance continues to skyrocket every year (when was the last time you saw a decrease in premiums?). When you do have a claim, the insurance carrier will work around the clock with skilled employees to try and deny any part of it they can. Meanwhile, we push back in the little time we have on a daily basis hoping to get through to the right person. If you find a medication that works, insurance will find a way for you to jump through 100 hoops before you can take it and then you'll still pay an enormous amount out of of pocket. Doctors cannot do their job anymore because insurance dictates how they treat patients. I could go on and on and I'm sure 100% of my friends on FB understand my frustration because you've experienced it as well.
I read where the average doctor treats 2,500 patients a year. Possibly up to 3,000. If 100 people or families could pay $10,000 per year into a co-operative, they could afford a private doctor. That's $1,000,000 a year to pay a doctor, a nurse, an office assistant, etc. . The doctor's life would be much better, they could treat patients however they wanted, and the flexibility of scheduling would be so much better. This would cover all routine visits, physicals, etc. If you needed specialty care, like a heart doctor, for example, then they have their own co-operative you pay into at that point. I'm guessing, but we might be better off financially and certainly happier from a patient service standpoint. If you're self employed, the average cost of premiums is over $1,500 per month and you're paying that whether you use it or not. Average out of pocket for most plans is around $19,000 per year for a family. That's affordable for most families? Why not implement these type of co-operatives combined with a plan for catastrophic coverage for surgeries, etc. You know why it will never happen, because it makes too much sense. The insurance industry would rather systematically drain individuals of their wealth for services not used or not pay for services they should be paying.
I used to prepare tax returns for a living and saw what doctors made....it's not as much as most people think. This type of plan would have doctors making more money and they could provide care like they want to instead of how insurance demands. Drive through a big city and look at the skyscrapers with an insurance company at the top.... that's where our excess dollars are going.....tons of overhead and bonuses for high-level executives.
Obviously, there are some holes that would need to be filled in the plan I mentioned above, but a plan hatched out of the is concept makes a ton of sense to me. Maybe I'm just a dreamer with small-town ideas, but man, something seems really broken.
Rant over.....
Nothing like a nice sunset on the lake! I'm ready for spring!
I'm very excited to serve on the Village Review Committee. I appreciate the appointment to the committee. With Campus Rentals representing over 1,900 tenants and 650 properties, we should be able to provide valuable input from a community perspective and a student perspective.
6 golds and 2 silvers.....my peeps tried to get me to take my shirt off and do my best Michael Phelps pose, but I spared everyone those visuals. 🤣
My favorite kind of mornings....I love the "lake fog".
Great rental property! Maintenance-free exterior!

Nice property!!!
My advice to anyone starting a business.....find people who are really good at their craft, but more importantly, find good people. These guys are truly the best humans. People see that.
I've worked very hard since 2017 to build this company into what it is today. It feels good to be recognized for those efforts. From just an infant company 6 years ago to a robust company with lots of talent now at over 20 employees.
Thank you for voting Muncie!

I'm selling a few of my properties around campus to free up cash for another business venture. These properties are fantastic! All leased through August 2024 at excellent rent. Some close to $3K per month with tenants paying all utilities. Many remodeled within the last 3 years. All in great locations. I'm happy to retain management on these as well! If you're interested, please let me know!
As many of you know, I am owner or co-owner in multiple entities, but currently, all of them involving real estate. In a past life, I was partner at a local CPA firm.
I graduated from Ball State in December of 1997 and immediately started working at the local firm. I chose to stay in Muncie because of various reasons, mostly due to family, opportunity, and the local atmosphere felt like home.
Entrepreneurship was always in my blood. I love business. From the lemonade stand I made and stood at for hours when I was a kid to painting rocks and selling them to classmates when I was in elementary school, there was always an “enterprise” to tackle. When I was older, it was an Ebay business, but later the “start-ups” were more complex and complicated after learning the language of business…. accounting. In 2008, I developed a passion for real estate that has fueled me since. Some might call it an addiction, but I just think it’s fun.
For many entrepreneurs, they may never leave their hometown and that’s fine. I don’t know the stats, but I’m sure 95-99% of all businesses who succeed depend on local patronage. What does that really mean? It means when given a choice, support locally-owned businesses. Local businesses employ half of the potential employees at a national level. When you support a national company who has a local office or a regional company who has a local office, those dollars spent only support the local employee they hired. The profits are spent elsewhere. They are spent in communities like Indianapolis, Fishers, Ft. Wayne, or Chicago to build nice homes, create better schools, or support their local jewelry store. The friend who works at the regionally owned satellite office benefits from a job, BUT the same job would be available at the locally owned company if the regional or national wasn’t there. Think about that. Business has become global because we allowed it. Global means less power for the local communities to control their own destiny.
Sometimes supporting local might result in paying a little more or the business is a little slower on delivery of service, but in the long run that support pays off through better schools, better opportunities, and a place where people want to live. The money you spend certainly goes to support your neighbor, a local charity, the local soccer league, or another mom-and-Pop store.
Unfortunately, with owning multiple companies, I’ve seen the impact first-hand of supporting non-local companies. Sometimes cutbacks or layoffs are required during poor economic conditions. Those five jobs sent to the competition in a month, is the difference between an employee getting laid off and a potential raise during their employee evaluation. This is a fact.
I was talking to a local realtor in recent weeks who was frustrated at outside agents coming to our area in this tough market. I checked the real estate listings that day and 22% of active listings were out-of-town realtors. 22%! One of the listings was a $675,000 listing. That’s $40,000 that left our community with one choice. It doesn’t stop there…. maybe they chose an out of community title company, insurance agent, or handyman to fix repairs, etc.
As of our last payroll at my companies, I employee 66 individuals, many with high-paying jobs more than 100K. They have better benefits than 90% of the companies in the country and they can stay here in Muncie because of your support. Local growth is possible with community support! Stay locally owned!
Enjoying a nice night at home after a truly insane week with my favorite person Nicolle Sidwell Price. She keeps me sane.
Please come check us out at our open house on Thursday from 4-6 @ Young's Title & Abstract. Here is a sneak peak at the table that was made to honor Don Young and the amazing title company that he built. I'm very pleased with how our remodel turned out, but this table....
