Did you know that one human mouth contains more bacteria than the number of people on Earth?! WOW! All the more reason to keep brushing! :)
Tooth decay is the most common childhood disease, making it all the more important to take care of your teeth! Don't forget to brush for two minutes, twice daily, and don't forget to floss!
Teething is a challenging time for little ones and parents, but you're not alone in this journey. A gentle rub with a cold washcloth can offer some comfort to sore gums, and so can a teething ring kept cool in the refrigerator.
Here are 3 tips to keep your child's lunches tooth-friendly!
(1) Focus on fibrous fruits and vegetables like apples, strawberries, and celery.
(2) Avoid juice and sugary sports drinks - Nuts or pretzels instead of potato chips.
(3) Add foods like cheese, non-fat yogurt, and calcium-rich milk.
And whatever your child eats, be sure to brush for 2 minutes, 2 times every day!
Did you know...
The average person only spends less than one minute per day brushing their teeth! That’s well below the recommended 2 minutes, 2 times a day. We recommend setting a clock, watching a short video, or using a toothbrush with a built in timer! Happy brushing!
Happy Labor Day! Let's celebrate the hard work and dedication of all who've contributed to our nation's growth and prosperity.
Calcium is crucial for healthy teeth! Teeth and bones are made mostly of calcium. Both are constantly remodeling through the resorption and deposit of calcium, which means that they rely upon calcium intake to power the process that maintains healthy bones. Sugar-free Yogurt is an excellent way for kids to get the calcium their teeth and bodies need. Mix in fresh fruit for some extra flavor!
Surprisingly, there’s no consensus on the correct order for brushing and flossing, although some research suggests that flossing first may be the most efficient way to remove plaque. Parents should help children floss as soon as two teeth begin to fit closely together. Whether you prefer to brush and then floss or floss then brush, we want to make sure that our patients are doing both!
During sports and other physical activity, it's important to remember to protect teeth and dental work with mouthguards. Not using a mouthguard can result in broken teeth, damaged gums, and other oral injuries. Protect your teeth!
Did you know that it's usually best to wait a few minutes after you eat before brushing? Certain foods, especially ones that are highly acidic and can make enamel soft. A quick rinse with water can help restore your mouth's pH and wash away any remaining food.
Did you know that teeth can be up to three times stronger than bone? Even still, they need gentle brushing from a soft-bristled toothbrush. Take good care of your child's teeth to keep them strong and healthy.
Everyone loves potato chips at a summer barbecue, but starchy foods can build up between your teeth and get stuck in hard-to-reach places. Better options for munching include carrots, apples, and other cut-up veggies. You may be surprised to watch the veggies disappear when set out during play—even with the pickiest of eaters! Whatever your family snacks on, don't forget to brush for two minutes twice a day!
One of the most common causes of early decay in children is "baby bottle decay." This usually comes from children having frequent access to liquids other than water outside feeding times. Even diluted juice can give cavity-causing bacteria everything they need to grow. Water is best!
A quick reminder that it may be time for a new toothbrush! Toothbrushes should be replaced around every three months or before bristles become frayed. When choosing a toothbrush for your child, be sure to pick one made for smaller hands and a head size made for smaller mouths. Soft bristles are usually the best choice!
Did you know that raw, fibrous, and leafy vegetables can help keep teeth clean? Foods such as broccoli, apples, celery, and carrots. Regardless of what you’re eating, don’t forget the best tooth tip: brush two times every day for two minutes!
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) suggests brushing your teeth for at least two minutes twice daily. Like this post if you've brushed today!

It's important for children to have fun, which includes participating in physical activities and trying out various sports. It is recommended that they wear mouth guards for some activities so their teeth are protected. Did you know mouth guards also help prevent concussions!

Children generally lack the dexterity to brush their own teeth effectively until they can tie their shoes. Even after reaching this milestone, it's crucial to supervise and assist with brushing. We've found it beneficial to let your child brush independently first, followed by a parent's assistance. Even once your child can brush without help, it's wise to keep a watchful eye to ensure they are brushing properly and for at least two minutes.

Fresh fruit plays a big role as part of a healthy diet. Fruit snacks, however, are usually not a tooth-friendly alternative and often contain added sugars that are perfect for cavity-causing bacteria. Additionally, dried fruit like raisins and plums can stick to teeth. The best choice is almost always fresh fruit!
