Jefferson Elementary School
We are respectful, confident learners and leaders.
It’s elementary night at the football game Friday!! All students get in free and are invited to create the varsity tunnel down on the field!
We had a GREAT Tuesday here at Jefferson! We've got photos featuring our Kindergarten classes with Mrs. Ramsey, Mrs. Nebergall (in music with Mr. Flack), and Mrs. Summitt's class (in the art room with Mrs. Stansbery), along with a few photos from Mrs. Todd's 3rd-grade class and Miss. Van Hemert's 2nd-grade class! See you tomorrow, !
. .
Way to go, Mrs. Todd! We are so excited to have Mark with us! Our Jefferson staff goes above and beyond to serve all students, and we are so grateful for them!
Please watch our student pick up and drop off video. Nothing has changed, but a few things will be more enforced this year for the safety of all!
SPREAD THE WORD!!! Just like the last few years, we plan to take family pictures at Muskie Connect. It would be great if the immediate family could come to be in the picture. We hang these pictures on the walls in the hallway so students can see their family throughout the day!
We are having some tech issues with our Muskie Connect Sign Ups. We understand that the correct teacher name may not be listed and that you are unable to click to sign your student up for a visit. We have reached out to our Tech Department and hope to have this issue resolved soon. Thank you for your patience, and for being "on the ball" and wanting to sign up right away!
Happy Friday, ! Things are looking good with our classroom addition! Crews are hard at work this morning, and we appreciate their efforts. We hope that everyone has a great weekend! Our first day of school is coming up on Friday, August 23rd! See you soon!
Who needs a reason to celebrate??? Then read on!
Jefferson school gets free breakfast, lunch, and snacks again this year!!
This is so helpful and saves families so much money! Woo hoo!!
Thank you to Aaron Maurer with the Mississippi Bend AEA for coming to Jefferson School to train our staff on all things AI! He is providing three sessions of learning for our teachers on how to utilize AI in the classroom.
Also big thank you to our Jefferson educators for giving up a few days of their summer to learn about some of the newest trends in learning and living! Learning never stops for kids or staff at Jefferson!
While we do miss all of our students, we also know that summer break is well deserved and a great time to unwind and have fun with family and friends! So, run, run! Go do something fun!!
Happy July everybody!!!!
Did you know Mr. Colon used to coach Muskie High School Baseball?? If you are 7 years old or under guess what… he wants to coach you too!! He will be coaching the 7u baseball team in the Muskie Baseball Academy. His goal is to teach and develop the 7u team the right way as well as instill that passion for the game. Tryout info below.
Please do not let money be the reason you don’t sign up! If you are unable to pay there is financial aid we can help you obtain! We will try our hardest to make this an opportunity for all of our students who want to try out whether you can afford it or not! Just reach out and let us know!

Here's the menu for during June!
began this morning at Jefferson Elementary! Here is the June breakfast and lunch menu. Thank you to the MCSD Food & Nutrition Department!
We tell our students this often at Jefferson! You take on the personality of those you hang out with!
As parents, it’s important for us to know this too so we have some say over our children’s behaviors and attitudes. We all want our children to be successful!
Choose your friends wisely!
Do you have a kid interested in basketball?
Register them for the one day skills camp with or very own Muskie and NBA player, Joe Wieskamp!!

We’ll keep our eyes open for more activities and post them here!
Shout out to the Stanley Center for Peace and Security for the professional learning opportunity offered through the Teaching for Peace and Justice DC Study Tour Program! After completing a book study on the text A More Just Future by Dr. Dolly Chugh, a group of 10 MCSD staff from across the district visited Washington DC to continue their learning! One of the MCSD staff members was our very own GT Teacher, Mrs. Sneath 😃
They visited several national museums, institutes, memorials, and more (it was a jam-packed 5 day tour). A couple highlights of the trip were the visits to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and the United States Institute of Peace! And… the Mexican Cultural Institute!!
Mrs. Sneath can’t wait to share her new learning with students!!
We want to check in on all the parents and caregivers! How are you holding up at the start of summer? Just kidding! We want to know what our students are up too! Send us some pictures of your summer activities!!
Would you like us to post community activities throughout the summer??
This drawing is by Anja Rozen, a 13 year old primary school student in Slovenia. She was chosen from 600,000 children around the world to create a piece of art to show what peace looks like. When I saw this it reminded me of our theme this last year, UBUNTU!! Read what she says about the drawing.
“My drawing represents the land that binds us and unites us.” Humans are woven together. If someone gives up, others fall. We are all connected to our planet and to each other, but unfortunately we are little aware of it. We are woven together. Other people weave alongside me my own story; and I weave theirs.”
We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again… there is no better place to learn and work than “Kandy Land” aka Jefferson School!
The best place for students to learn is the place where teachers enjoy coming to work, feel appreciated and loved, and are inspired and motivated to do what they love daily! Dr. Kandy Steel has helped to create the best, most positive school culture. We are incredibly lucky to have her!
Kandy Land- An AWESOME place to work where everyone is AMAZING!! If you have been lucky enough to teach or learn here then you know exactly what we are talking about.
Thank you to QT Designs for the amazing shirts!
It may be the last day of school, but there is still learning to be had in third grade at Jefferson!! Dr. Josh Otten visited with our third graders today. He’s not what one might typically think when you hear Dr., he’s a turtle doctor!
He taught the students about how to measure the turtles, as well as how he puts a notch in their shell so he knows what turtle he is following. He has some really cool satellite equipment to follow turtles around too. Notice the turtle with the antenna and solar panel on its back.
Oh, and he brought a snake 🐍!! We’re so lucky to have Dr. Josh visit us. Luckily Mrs. Randleman is his sister so she could pull some strings to get him here!
Thank you to the Muscatine Art Center for having our Jefferson students for some end of the year fun today. A big thank you also to West Hill Cakery: Custom Cake Design and Sweet Treat Catering for the delicious sugar cookie!
We are SO proud of our ! Our 6th-grade students presented their 'Vision Boards' this afternoon, and they all did such a wonderful job! Watch this to learn more.
A reminder that tomorrow (05/29) is the LAST day of school, and we have a 2-hour early dismissal!
. .
Our quarter days that we held a few weeks ago raised $477.01! We were able to donate 12 backpacks (each with a pair of pajamas, a blanket, and a stuffed animal) to the Domestic Voilence Shelter!
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Doing something for others doesnt have to be big and extravagant. Many times the smallest gestures have the biggest impact. Whether it's a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand, these actions can brighten someone's mood, lift their spirits, and even inspire them to pay it forward. It's amazing how a little kindness can go such a long way.
Come to Jefferson until 12:00 and again from 1:30-2:30 to see the 6th grade Vision Boards.
4th, 5th and 6th grade color fun!
