Folks, be aware and alert while traveling down River Rd. From the fire station at River Rd and Brick School Rd to Foster Mill Rd, we have road crews working a surface improvement project. Watch your speed as the loose gravel may cause your vehicle to move around more than you'd like. Use patience and remember, these folks have families they need to get home to as well. You may experience a lane closure with this project. Use caution and everybody wins.
Ford City - Brick Hatton Community, please join us in sending prayers and resolve to our neighbors in the west as the Cherokee community navigates through the waters of loss. We ask that all pray for healing and lift them up as they mourn the loss and celebrate the life of this young man.
Our thoughts and prayers for his community and family
The fallen firefighter from last night’s home explosion in Sterling has been identified as Firefighter Trevor Brown, 45, of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company. He has been affiliated with the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System since 2016. Please keep Firefighter Brown’s family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, and we ask that the family’s privacy be respected.
As a result of last night’s incident, emergency medical services personnel from Loudoun and Fairfax Counties identified 13 patients in addition to the fatally injured Firefighter Brown. This includes 11 first responders and two civilians with varying degree of injuries. Of the injured first responders, four remain hospitalized at local area hospitals. The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and additional information will be released as available.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION:
On the evening of December 20th, Brick Hatton VFD was notified of a multi vehicle accident on the double bridges near the county line to Lawrence County. Your First Responders reacted immediately and dispatched to the incident scene. Two responders arrived via POV while two responders arrived in T901 and two arrived in E905. Crews began to assist Town Creek and Red Bank VFDs in the incident.
Involved in this accident were a family of four in Vehicle 1 and a single occupant in Vehicle 2. Crews extricated the driver of Vehicle 1 using the "Jaws of Life." All parties in Vehicle 1 were transported to Huntsville. The occupant in Vehicle 2 did not survive the accident.
Crews remained on-scene until the vehicles were removed and the roadway was cleared.
**Please take note**
While many folks in Colbert County have scanners and have every right to listen in on emergency calls and radio communications, it's unfortunate that some folks utilize these scanners as a form of entertainment. While on the incident scene, once the patients were provided the best care possible, our responders fielded calls and texts filled with speculation and variations to what took place. Much of the time, you will not hear any sensitive information come across those scanners. Why? We, as First Responders, while volunteer, we still have an obligation to preserve the rights and privacy of our patients and those victims to whose emergencies we respond. We generally contact E911 via phone to share sensitive information regarding our emergency response calls. Facts of incidents will be released, when able, by the news media and law enforcement.
We post this information not be be offensive but to share information related to our responses. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions or comments.

Alabama’s Fire Alert Reinstated to Include All 67 Counties . . .
Effective immediately, the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) has re-issued a Fire Alert for all 67 counties in the state. In the 32 northern counties (roughly north of Interstate 20), no burn permits will be issued. In the 35 southern counties (south of Interstate 20), certified prescribed burn managers will have the option to obtain a one-day burn permit. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Anyone who burns a field, grassland, or woodland without a burn permit may be subject to prosecution for committing a Class B misdemeanor.
During the past seven days, AFC wildland firefighters have responded to 111 wildfires that scorched more than 1,881 acres of forestland in Alabama. Drought conditions are expected to worsen as no rain is forecast for the next week, and October is historically the state's driest month. This extremely dry weather creates a greater-than-average potential for outdoor fires to escape easily and spread rapidly, taking longer – and more firefighting resources – to contain and ultimately control.
To report a wildfire, call the Alabama Forestry Commission at (800) 392-5679. For more information on the current wildfire situation in the state or any other forestry-related issues, contact your local AFC office or visit the agency website at www.forestry.alabama.gov/Pages/Fire/Totals.aspx The Alabama Forestry Commission is the state agency committed to protecting Alabama’s invaluable forest assets as well as its citizens.

borrowed prayer...
"God, we ask you to calm the wind and the fury of the approaching storm. Spare those in its path from harm. Help those who are in its way to reach safety...
In all things and in all times, help us to remember that even when life seems dark and stormy, you are in the boat with us, guiding us to safety."
Dangerous weather has been forecast for our area! Please pay attention to the changing forecast conditions and make plans & preparations now...
Here is a list of storm shelters in our area that are open for your use.
We thank all of our volunteers that answered the call last night and who continue to answer today. The round of storm that came through brought many trees down across our response district. The ground, already having been saturated, was an easy target with the high winds to bring these trees on down. We encourage patience as you move throughout the district and the county as crews remain out with trees, power lines, utility lines, and such. Our Colbert County 9-1-1 dispatchers did a great job last night ensuring clear communication was provided to those responders. Sheffield Utilities lineman were out in force trimming back damage from the lines to return power.
With the adversity and fury of Nature, the best of man comes together for the benefit of our neighbors...
We want to take the opportunity to thank all the Colbert County Sheriff’s Deputies that responded today in assistance to the commercial vehicle accident. In addition, the swift actions of Keller EMS and the Colbert County 9-1-1 telecommunicators assisted our team in extricating two patients into the hands of our amazing Air Evac Lifeteam Shoals. Thanks to Colbert County EMA for being on-hand to assist and ensure the Muscle Shoals Fire Department responded to mitigate the hazardous fluids from the vehicle. Simpson's Collision Repair and Wrecker Service were dispatched via Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to remove the vehicle and to reopen the roadway. While on this emergency call, EMS were called out to an adjacent home for a response. Our crews were able to assist past the initial incident to assess the patient until the roadway was cleared.
Thank you to all who responded and assisted allowing our teams to ensure positive patient care.
On behalf of the BHVFD, thank you!!
Today, our county experienced a significant weather event. During that time, mostly after the straight line rains, the Colbert County 9-1-1 went into overdrive, dispatching over 170 response calls to trees down, power lines down, and medical calls across the county. During this short period of time, our county communications system experienced some issues. The 911 emergency telecommunications did not miss a step, even having to rely on telephone calls to those of us in the field, working these hazards, and our citizens calling into the 911 Emergency Dispatch Center.
Your county emergency response team handled each call with precision and care, regardless of the extra steps involved without the data center assistance.
Once the system came back online, the telecommunications team went above and beyond, utilizing a system of checks and balances from their notes, checking on our Responders in the weather.
Thank you all for your diligence, responding to the many calls across the county, your patience, the highway department, Sheffield Utilities, our esteemed volunteer firefighters throughout the county, our law enforcement partners, our EMS partners, our dispatchers, and of course, our communities.
We had wind. We had rain. We had trees and lines down. Today was a good day. Debris, time delays, but from what we understand, little to no injuries.
Thank you all!!
