Nora Benjamin's Story

Yesterday was a beautifully emotional day! I am still in awe over the amount of stuff we were able to donate! We got to see some old friends and meet some new friends while dropping everything off! The twins were excellent helpers and so very excited to give back to the children and their families! Yesterday there were tears of joy and gratitude! We were even got to help pick out a few things to give to a special little patient before even leaving the Hospital! We know the difference it can make and we will continue to push forward making sure we give back and honor Nora in the best way possible! 💜

Okay! So everything has been cleaned, sanitized, washed, disinfected and sorted! I am so excited with everything we received and can give forward!

We were able to fill a total of 10 tote bags for parents/guardians. They are filled with adult coloring books, word puzzles, a few journals, pens/colored pencils. They each have a blanket, water and variety of snacks, eye masks and tissues.

The laundry baskets are filled with a variety of coloring books, paint books, water books, reading books, puzzles, card games, board games, drawing tablets, magnetic activity boards, magnetic building blocks and tiles, make-up kits and lap tables. Also a variety of toys and activities for babies to teens. Art supplies, crafting projects, stickers, window decorations, fairy lights, photo hangers, extra journals and bathroom kits! The smaller plastic tubs have baby toys and teething rings. In the big plastic tub there are crib sheets and twins sheets with pilllow cases. Also superhero socks for the babies, scrunchies and head bows!

We are absolutely blown away and so eternally grateful for all the support and love you have continued to give over and over again! 💜

You guys are absolutely amazing. You will not believe how much we will be able to donate to the hospital! I’m literally in tears looking at all of these packages! And not everything has finished arriving… We will start going through everything this weekend (sorting and washing)and plan to deliver everything to the Hospital Monday around lunch time! I truly hope we can make each year better than the last!

Hello all of Nora’s family, friends and followers! As a lot of you may know, the anniversary of our sweet girl’s passing is approaching. Last year we were blessed enough to deliver some sweet little care packages to OU Children’s CICU for their patients!

In honor of Nora, each year we will try to give back as much as possible to OU Children’s CICU/TRANSPLANT PROGRAM patients and families! We have yet to create an actual foundation in her name, which we will be doing. As for right now we have just been coming together as friends and family to make it work. We ask for your help if you are able. If there is anything you would like to help purchase or donate, please know it is all going towards the patients and families! I have created an Amazon wish list (link below) of some of the things I remember bringing Nora and us comfort during such a hard and terrifying time. There is so much more we look forward to doing in the future, but we are just getting started!

We intend to deliver these to the hospital the beginning of June, if not on June 1st itself. Just depends on how quickly I can get everything together!

I want to share a few photos of our time spent in the hospital just so you can see that these things, even though they seem simple or trivial, make a tremendous difference for those who will spend weeks to months in the hospital… The dry erase window art, the head bows, headbands, coloring, bubbles, personal sheets, pillow case, blankets, homemade gowns and outfits to accommodate all the cords and tubing, the magnetics, the puzzles, journals to keep up with everything… Soft comfortable pajamas and fun non-skid socks… The smallest of things can make the biggest difference when it comes to keeping spirits high and hearts filled with faith and hope…💜

Today our Nora Leigh would have turned 7 years old… I can only imagine what a beautiful little soul she would be! What she would look like, sound like and act like. I wish she was her to celebrate, but I know she is having all the fun with all of our passed love ones!

We at Mended Little Hearts recognize that the loss of a life, at any age, should be recognized and remembered. In the CHD Community, we honor and cherish our heart warriors, of all ages, who have gone too soon.

This Heart Month we invite you to join us in “A Wave of Light,” on February 12th at 7pm. This is a global initiative. Everyone participating is asked to light a candle, or share a candle virtually on social media, at 7pm in YOUR time zone, and leave that candle burning for ONE hour. The wave of light will spread, hour by hour, across the globe. As one light burns out, the next will be lit. We encourage all members of the heart community to share the light in honor of a loved one lost, or to share the light in support of a family who has suffered a loss.
