It's Small Business Saturday and I want to give a shout out to all of you who have supported, promoted, and encouraged me all year! It's been a wonderful 2017 and I'm looking forward to many more years in the community stretching, kneading, sweating, and moving out the kinks. So much gratitude!
Today was Lesson 1 of the Yoga Foundations Course. We learned about connecting to ourselves, accepting all of our sensations and feelings as information whether they seem pleasant or unpleasant. This information gives us an opportunity to respond with compassion, awareness, and healing intentions. When we resist the things we don't want to feel, we create tension within outselves, we lose the ability to communicate on an inner level and this causes us to suffer. Accept it. Feel it. Let it go. Be free.
The Foundations Course is full! Enrollment is now closed. Looking forward to working with all of you who signed up starting in a few weeks :).
Don't be afraid to catch feelz!
If you're like most people, you probably spend a lot of time struggling against your emotions. Sometimes they are uncomfortable, unpleasant, and maybe even a little scary...so we resist. This resistance actually makes things worse for us and perpetuates the struggle. The only way out is to let yourself feel, sit with it, experience it, and let it pass. Neurologist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor says this about emotions:
'It takes less than 90 seconds for an emotion to get triggered, surge chemically through the blood stream, then get flushed out.
There’s an automatic and chemical response in the body, even to an EXTREME emotion, that simply cannot last longer than 90 seconds. After that, anything that you feel is OF YOUR OWN CHOOSING.
If you FIGHT the emotion and you don’t allow it’s natural release through your body, you are going to have to fight it again and again. If you open yourself to it and remain completely present, it will pass within 90 seconds.'
Pictured below is Camel Posture, my favorite facilitator of feelings, sensations, and physical responses. This posture has taught me how to feel and not panic, how to breathe and watch the feeling pass, and how to accept this experience of being human. The process brings me from discomfort to comfort; from resistance to acceptance, from fear to understanding, and completely changes the way I exist in this life. If you want to learn more, come practice yoga with me any day of the week and experience for yourself what this method has to teach you :).
What is the most common reason for joint pain developing in the body? Muscle adhesion. One more reason massage therapy is a key component of a regular wellness plan. This video explains it in under two minutes.

Adhesion Adhesion is the most common and most under diagnosed musculoskeletal problem.

Women's Circle is cancelled tonight! Sorry for the late notice. Kara is not feeling well so we will postpone 'til next month. Next Circle will meet September 12 from 7pm-8pm.
I'm often asked about stretching and how to increase flexibility. We often approach our body like we are going to battle with an enemy. If we can learn to work WITH our body rather than against it, we might start to see some progress. Here is an explanation about what is actually happening when we stretch. Worth a read if you wanna know more about your body.
Why You Can’t “Stretch” a Muscle Did you know that you can't actually "stretch" a muscle? According to Ralph Stevens, muscles are "not elastic."
Good health requires balance in our lives and bodies. It is important to both work and rest. Come learn how to find this balance through yoga as we move and work through a series of postures while simultaneously learning how to rest and relax both mentally and physically. Two options today are 12pm and 6pm classes.
Feeling extra depleted? Get a massage and let me help get your energy flowing again so you can move with ease!
ATTN: Evening class attendees,
Beginning today, if there are no enrollees by 5pm, the evening class will be cancelled for that night. If at least one person signs up by 5pm (online or by text), class will be held. If you're unsure, don't hesitate to text or call. When evening attendance becomes more consistent (read - when summer is over), this policy may change. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO EVENINGS. Day time peeps disregard :).
Thanks and happy Monday!
Two chances to practice today. 12pm and 6pm. Spending just 75 minutes of your day to cleanse, strengthen, and bring balance back to your body will leave you feeling revived and powerful. So worth it! Just show up.
It's good for you. Two chances to sweat it out today --1:00pm and 6:00pm
