Make your voice heard on NYS Foundation Aid!

Members of the public can share input on the Foundation Aid formula in two ways:

Provide verbal comments at a public hearing
Submit written comment through their online form

Congratulations to Nyack resident and Olympian Charlotte Buck on qualifying for the 2024 USA Olympic Rowing Team! Charlotte, former captain of the Varsity Tennis Team at Nyack High School, began rowing with the Rockland Rowing masters team in the summer of 2014. She joined Columbia University's rowing team as a walk-on during her freshman year, eventually becoming Team Captain and MVP in both 2017 and 2018. Her participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was remarkable, and this latest achievement promises to take her to even greater heights. Best of luck, Charlotte!

Great turnout at the 37th Annual Women's Distance Festival at Rockland Lake State Park! Proceeds supported the Center for Safety & Change's vital work against domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Kudos to the new organizers, Lauren and Amy, for a fantastic job! Shout-out to my wife Lee, daughter Rachel, Supervisor Teresa Kenny, and hundreds of others who participated.

It was great to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the grand opening of La Cascada Sports Bar and Restaurant in the Village of Haverstraw.

Thankfully former President Trump's wounds are not life threatening after the assassination attempt on his life at a Pennsylvania campaign rally. We pray for him and his family. No matter where you stand or what side of the aisle you agree with, political violence has no place in our democracy. We are better than this.

My staff joined Town of Clarkstown officials to celebrate the new turf infield at Joe Medler Field with the West Nyack Little League and also had a great time with 'The Nerds' at Lake Nanuet, enjoying their Rock, R&B, and Funk performance as part of the Clarkstown Family Music Festival.

Congratulations to the Village of Spring Valley and especially deputy mayor and project coordinator Yisroel Eisenbach on reopening Kennedy Park near Old Nyack Turnpike! A $200,000 grant from the Rockland County Government made the new playground equipment and other fantastic features possible.

Yesterday, we put politics aside for a special visit from Governor Kathy Hochul, who visited Rockland County to announce the opening of the Homes for Heroes Veterans Apartments, a 14-unit supportive housing development for veterans. Developed by Rockland Homes for Heroes with significant state and county funding, this project is on the historic grounds of Camp Shanks. This achievement by Rockland Homes for Heroes is truly commendable, and it is why I was honored to nominate its founder, former County Legislator John Murphy, to the NYS Veterans Hall of Fame earlier this year.

On Tuesday I had the honor to meet three brave Ukrainian soldiers, all of whom lost a leg while defending their county. It was difficult, but necessary, to hear their stories. I want to thank my friend Polina Buryakov-Alexiou for this opportunity. She is the founder of the Organizing Ukraine Relief Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non profit charity, dedicated to providing humanitarian aid to these brave soldiers. The Foundation brings these soldiers to Rockland County, houses them, and provides them world class physical therapy they cannot receive at home to help them recover from their injuries and assist them with their new prosthetics. Please visit the Foundation’s website at www.ourfoundationusa.org for more information.

It was great touring the Birthing Center of Rockland yesterday with Rep. Mike Lawler. Jacob and Yutta Engel, CM, LM, developed this stunning facility to aid Rockland women with pre- and postnatal midwifery services. Their location at 84 Route 59 is close to Good Samaritan Hospital Suffern, NY, with whom they partner in case of emergency.

Congratulations to the outgoing Town of Haverstraw Police Chief Peter Murphy on your well-deserved retirement. As the son of a retired NYPD officer and brother to one retired and one active officer, I commend you for your dedicated service—special congratulations to Haverstraw's incoming Police Chief, John Gould, who I know will do a fantastic job.

I attended Governor Kathy Hochul's state of the state address, but am more interested in next week’s budget proposal than yesterday's aspirational rhetoric. That’s where the rubber meets the road. We have a lot of important issues to deal with during this legislative session and look forward to working with the governor when I can to resolve them.
