To ignite the potential of all young people, we must ensure they have a strong mentoring relationship in their lives. Together, we affirm that everyone can reach their full potential. We are committed to creating and cultivating a safe environment where all individuals feel respected and valued equally.
We were born out of justice to create equity for youth, bringing together diverse communities so that all kids can feel included in the promise and opportunity for a better life. BBBSA actively engages diversity, inclusion, and cultural competencies throughout our organization. As we celebrate , we want to reaffirm our promise to educate and uplift LGBTQIA+ individuals not just during this month but throughout the year.
We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community, promoting acceptance, understanding, and equality. Together, we strive to create a safe and inclusive space where all young people can thrive, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
On this and every day, we honor the spirit of African Americans who fought for their freedom and paved the path for a better future. To , let’s catalyze change by embracing empowerment and lifting each other up. It all begins with fostering unity within our communities.
We Need Mentors! Do you Qualify? Why Be a Big?
In 2016, BBBS launched our LGBTQ+ Youth Mentoring Enhancement Initiative. This initiative was research-based, thoughtful, and deliberate. It was designed to ensure not just that LGBTQ youth and mentors would be accepted or tolerated within Big Brothers Big Sisters, but that they would be affirmed, understood, and celebrated. The initiative began as a pilot program with five local agencies. A year later, we expanded it to 20 agencies. Now, we’ve included our whole network in the program, which includes training opportunities, inclusive policies and procedures, and specific focus on anti-bullying, self-advocacy, and identity exploration.
BBBS is proudly celebrating : Join us in embracing our journey of supporting and creating LGBTQ+ programs! From fostering safe spaces and raising awareness to empowering voices, we've proudly stood as allies at every turn. Let's continue to build a more inclusive future! On June 2nd BBBS invited Bigs, Littles & Families to join us in making connections with one another by making friendship bracelets and working as a team to build 12 foot bracelets. These A.S.K.-tivation Kits were provided by MTV Entertainment teamed up with Active Minds – a leading mental health non-profit working with youth and young adults to champion peer-to-peer mental health programs for the past two decades. Together, we’ve taken a program that was developed to serve as a ‘Stop, Drop, and Roll’ for providing emotional support to the people in our lives.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland made a monumental touchdown in community engagement by hosting its inaugural Flag Football event, an ode to both Volunteer Month and the NFL's Inspire Change initiative. A heartfelt salute is due to our dedicated referees and esteemed Board Members, Dan Wugman and Mike Ellman, whose guidance ensured smooth gameplay. Gratitude extends to our Board Chairwoman, Jennifer Sislin, whose participation on the field culminated in a remarkable touchdown.
