Start off the school year/work year with a dental checkup and cleaning! Prevention is key to avoid unpleasant dental surprises. Fresh breath and a healthy mouth go a long way in your personal care.
FLOSSING. The goal of flossing is to remove the plaque which consists of active COLONIES of Destructive bacteria. Plaque forms as a result of food breaking down in your mouth especially from sugars and starch. Can your dentist or hygienist know if you floss? Yes, they know especially if you have a lot of bleeding and inflammation. Progressive inflammation causes periodontal disease, bad breath and eventual loss of bone and teeth. Your gums are the pillars that hold and cushion your teeth. Floss at least once a day.
Your teeth are only as strong as the foundation that holds them. People lose teeth due to periodontal disease (aka gum disease) and other reasons. Perio disease is chronic and systemic. As gum disease progresses your gums shrink and your teeth have no more support. Sadly, some of these teeth still had functional dental work. Dental visits and regular cleanings are so important for your health. Schedule your dental appointment to keep your healthy smile!
Daunting. One of my staff saw this at Ross. You can achieve the same result by simply brushing your tongue.
The grinding is real. Clenching, bruxing and grinding your teeth can erode and shorten the length of your teeth. Teeth become broken, sensitive and unsightly. If no preventive measures taken you will need extensive dental work to restore your smile. A night guard, or brux guard can protect your teeth to prevent and stop further breakage of your teeth.
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a poliwog? No, it's just a tooth with a very large acavity.
Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas!
Wishing you and your families a Peaceful Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving. Our dental office will be closed November 23-26th, 2023.
Recently a patient asked whether George Washington really had wooden teeth. The answer is NO. However, George had many dental ailments and lost all but one tooth in his mouth. Dentistry in the 1700's was different indeed. https://youtu.be/y9Of3YXBXQ0?si=AZZyeLggLyw5ktkO

Did you know that even the mighty Louis XIV, France's 'Sun God' King, had a court tooth operator who would pull his teeth on demand? 😮 Back in April 1676, the king suffered from excruciating toothaches, and his doctor used a mixture of chanterelle and thyme essence to provide relief. However, the purgative properties of the remedy often caused serious burns. Thankfully, dental care has advanced significantly since then! Today, we enjoy the incredible advantages of modern dentistry, including oral surgery, amazing anesthetics, and early detection and prevention of dental problems.
Mussels in wine! 🍷 Did you know that these delicious bivalves have teeth? Not like ours, though! Depending on the variety, they may have lateral teeth and pseudo cardinal teeth. These unique teeth aren't for chewing food, but rather to keep their shells tightly sealed together. Nature's clever design! 🌊💫

Cavities, or tooth decay start as small areas in your tooth enamel that left unattended can quickly invade the tooth pulp causing pain and calling for a root canal, or possibly an extraction. Teeth are relatively small and a small cavity can quickly become a huge cavity. Take care of your teeth today while the problems are small. Don't wait for a rainy day!
