Maria Loiselle Sario was honored with the DAISY Award. ππΌπ The DAISY Award is one of the most meaningful accolades given to registered nurses. Through this award, our hospital recognizes compassionate care and clinical expertise nurses provide to patients and their families.
According to a patient's family member, Maria provided care for their loved one, who was dealing with a long-term illness, during their last stay at the Queen. Despite being the shift lead, Maria checked in regularly to make sure her patient was comfortable and pain free. At the end of every shift Maria called the family to share how the previous night had been for their loved one. When the patient entered hospice and was permitted to eat, Maria had their favorite food delivered to them.
βThat simple gesture meant a lot to us and brought tears to my eyes. This nurse showed true compassion and caring and we appreciated it so much.β Maria's care and kindness made the patient, and their family, feel seen and well cared for in their final days together.
We gathered in June to celebrate our Values in Action caregiver recipients who live out our values of Dignity, Compassion, Excellence, Justice and Integrity in their day-to-day interactions with patients and one other. Each of them has gone above and beyond to model what it means to be a βperson of Providence,β and to continue the vital legacy which began with the Sisters of St. Joseph. πππ
