40 years ago today, the soundtrack to Purple Rain was released and literally defined our lives and cemented Prince as a music icon!

* ~ * ~ * ~

Purple Rain became Prince's first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200. The album spent 24 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 and was present on the chart for a total of 167 weeks. "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Purple Rain" peaked at number two and "I Would Die 4 U" peaked at number eight. In May 1996, the album was certified 13× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It is Prince's commercial peak, with total sales standing at 25 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. Prince and the Revolution won Grammy Awards for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, while Prince also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for the film Purple Rain.

“Dear Mr. Vernon,

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong, but we think you’re crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us — in the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal.

Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours,

The Breakfast Club”

Be a Road To Recovery Volunteer 07/30/2023

Vintage Alumni Gina Alessio works with the American Cancer Society and posted about volunteer drivers earlier this week. We're passing along the information in case you can help.

~ ~ ~

The American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program provides free rides to treatment for cancer patients.

Transportation barriers are the #1 reason for missed cancer appointments.

For people with cancer who have no way of getting to treatment, our Road To Recovery® program is there to help. Driving patients to lifesaving treatment is one of the most meaningful volunteer experiences you can have with the American Cancer Society.

We need volunteers so we can help more cancer patients. Unfortunately, we can’t provide rides to everyone who asks us to help them. You can change that.

Volunteer to Drive Cancer Patients

If you are facing cancer and need rides to treatment, call 1-800-227-2345 to find out if there are Road To Recovery drivers available in your area.

Be a Road To Recovery Volunteer The American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program provides free rides for cancer patients to and from treatments. Apply to be a volunteer driver.

Officer Gilbert and Dormy.

Dormilon (Dormy) is a three year old male American Bulldog. He is 120 lbs of big love! He loves being active even though he doesn't need long walks.

His favorite hobbies are splashing in a kiddie pool and playing with his big red ball. He is very strong and would need someone who can effectively leash train and walk him. Homes with small children are probably not the best fit due to his size. The first three years of his life were spent outside and in the garage. Dormy would love to find a home that welcomes him as a member of the family.
