Representative Janet Yang Rohr
State Representative of the 41st House District of Illinois.
Since 2018, the United Nations has declared the last week of September the International Week of the Deaf.
Today is the West Suburban Irish Irish Fest. It was an honor to recognize this local organization for all they do to serve our community with a resolution from the House of Representatives. I also did a little research on how I can learn to play the bagpipes with the Firefighters Highland Guard of Naperville.
Thank you to Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce for hosting Inside Naperville Government. It was a honor to share with our community the inside scoop on being an elected official serving our community.
The United Nations first declared September 21 as the International Day of Peace in 1981. 43 years later, we continue to strive to build a more peaceful world.
Thank you to The Illinois Environmental Council for hosting a celebration of the passing of HB4895 regarding Climate Change Education in our schools. It was wonderful to share this accomplishment with the students and advocates involved. Including IL State Representative Kim du Buclet - 5th who was a chief co-sponsor on the bill.
On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we remember those members of our Armed Forces who have gone missing in action or are prisoners of war. According to the Department of Defense, over 80,000 American military personnel are missing from previous and ongoing conflicts. My heart goes out to these service members and their families. They are gone but never forgotten!
Thank you to Naperville Community Television (NCTV17) for the wonderful report on the students who worked with our office on a bill that will enhance climate change education for our students. For the full report:
Climate change to be required Illinois teaching, thanks to two Naperville students | NCTV17 Thanks to the work of two Naperville teens, climate change will be required teaching for all high school students statewide by next fall.

It is exciting to see the bill that came through our office and the work of one of our students on Fentanyl Education is making a difference for our community and students. For the full report:

Happy Mexican Independence Day! On this day in 1810, Miguel Hidalgo made a speech, known as the Grito de Dolores, rallying the people to seek their independence.
Whether you are expecting your first baby, raising a young family, or are a grandparent or other caregiver, now is an ideal time to make sure your car seat is correctly installed, research baby-safe and child resistant products, learn about safe sleeping positions, and more.
Since 1983, the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association has designated September as Baby Safety Month. For more information on how to keep your baby safe, visit jpma.org/page/baby_safety_month.
Today, take out time to check in on family, friends, loved ones or even your co-workers. You never know what someone else is going through. It can be as simple as starting a conversation by texting “R U OK?”
We will never forget the first responders in New York and Washington who risked their lives and ran toward danger because they knew they could make a difference. We will never forget the heroes of Flight 93 who stood up to hijackers. We will never forget the Americans of all backgrounds, races, and faiths who lined up across the country to donate blood. And we will never forget the hundreds of thousands of Americans who joined our nation’s military to protect our country after these attacks. 23 years later, we still mourn those lost and find strength in all who gave of themselves to help others.
In 2022, nearly 50,000 Americans lost their lives to su***de. Although men are 4 times more likely than women to commit su***de, since the late 90s su***de rates have risen year over year across the gender and socioeconomic spectrum.
Today and everyday, let’s help to uplift our communities by reducing the stigma around this topic and mental health. If you or someone you know is struggling, please call dial or text 988 or visit www.988lifeline.org.
How are you going to celebrate Grandparents Day? A visit or a call to say hello is always nice. This year take time to ask them to share stories about when they were in school and the things they did when they were growing up. There is so much you can learn just by listening!
A great evening for the NNHS vs NCHS Crosstown Classic football game! Thanks to for hosting a great event every year.
Pick up a book, visit a library, and explore places you could only see through the magic of reading. Every September, we celebrate literacy and the opportunities that it brings!
United Nations declared Sept. 5 as International Day of Charity to honor the memory and passing of Mother Teresa. What can you do today to serve the people in your neighborhood, community, state, country or even globally?

According to the Foundation for Women’s Cancer, a woman is diagnosed with a form of gynecological cancer every 5 minutes. This September, let’s prioritize our health and make sure that the women in our lives are up-to-date on routine health screenings that can detect the deadly disease such as pelvic exams or pap smears.
To learn more about gynecological cancer, support research efforts and more, please visit the Foundation for Women’s Cancer website at www.foundationforwomenscancer.org.

National Wildlife Day encourages improved awareness of the species around us and in the broader world. Let’s remember every day how our choices affect species around the world and celebrate the important work zoos and animal sanctuaries do to promote conservation.
Labor Day is not about just picnics and parades. It’s a day to celebrate and reflect on the vital work of the labor movement and all unions have done to help build the middle class. As an advocate for working families, I’ll always stand up for a stronger middle class and the rights of workers in Illinois.
Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 600,000 died from drug overdoses in 2019. Every overdose is a tragedy, and we’ve taken steps to prevent them such as requiring concert venues to maintain a supply of opioid overdose reversal drugs. If you are struggling with substance addiction or know someone who is, you can call the SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357.
