✨ Physicians Regional Heart Center Milestone

Yesterday marked our first Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair procedure. This cutting edge technology is available at our Pine Ridge hospital. During mitral valve regurgitation, incomplete closure of the mitral valve leaflets causes some of the blood to flow incorrectly through the heart,(termed regurgitation), thus reducing heart function. The interventional cardiologist delicately secures a clip onto the leaflets, thus ensuring proper blood circulation through the heart. This groin access procedure allows access to this treatment for patients who are at a high risk for open heart surgery. Physicians Regional has been working with the Collier County Public School System for the past 6 months on a special project called the GATE program. This is a one year internship program for students in an extended program with the CCPS that allows them to join our workforce (as volunteers/interns) and learn the skills they need to be employable and marketable for years to come.

Currently the program is implemented at our Collier Blvd. campus in the emergency department, but we are looking forward to expanding the program to other departments and the Pine Ridge campus in the future.

Suzanne Gibson, MSN, MHSC, R.N., CENP brings extensive experience to our leadership team as our chief nursing officer at our Collier Blvd campus. Suzanne has proven to be committed and proactive with dedication to delivering quality, compassionate care, creating efficient work systems, and managing a nursing team focused on improving the patient experience and ensuring quality patient outcomes while improving nursing engagement and working towards turnover reduction.
